I have been meaning to change it for a couple of years but finally got a new saddle to change the rubbish stock saddle on my hybrid.

I got a Selle SMP TRK Gel large and fitted it before a ride out last night.

Erm, I am not sure about it at the moment, more comfortable for sure but it has made the bike feel a size smaller somehow - will give it a few more goes.

More Wiggle bargains....

https://www.wiggle.co.uk/ixs-flow-evoknee-guard

Will be my third set of these in 6 years, love them and made the mistake in the past of chucking previous sets straight in the wash and not taking out the D3O which made them fall apart. Comfy AF, not overly sweaty and D3O protection for £32!!! Handy spares to have alongside my Sweet pads.

That's good to know - thank you, could do with something like this!

After my debacle with the new bike, and the fact it is being returned and I have no bike now ( well no all year round bike to throw on the train and at all weathers ) I trawled FB and bought this today. Bought a new saddle and put my pedals on.

New brake rotors to put on my winter/commuter wheels so I don't have to swap the rotors over every time I swap the commuter wheels for the sexy carbon wheels.

This year's C2W voucher came through:

Then, as I popped to the local store for a blast of air to seat the cinturato tyres, picked up some nice Eggbeaters in a colour that matches the titanium frame quite nicely:

That should be me fully sorted for commuting and training for LEJoG next year other than consumables until next C2W voucher window at work!

Oh, and tubeless is a c**t. Hopefully the faff will be worth it.

Some new cleats.

Rode over to Shrewsbury on Sunday morning to join the Mid Shropshire Wheelers Reliability Ride. Not much traffic about, so I didn't have to slow at a junction until about half way to Shrewsbury. It was that point I found I couldn't unclip either foot... censored

Managed to get through the junction without ending up on the deck and eventually found a sign post I could lean on and then managed to unclip.

I guress you're slackening rather than steepening? If so, what are you going from & to?

Also, if it's you're first time fitting an angleset, take your time!

Measure it, mark it, check it, check it again and keep checking it as your're pressing it in

Get either cup slightly out of alignment and you'll know straight away when either or both bearings grind like hell first time you steer it.

I have bought a device to speed me up. An aero seat post. No really! If you look closely you can see the top couple of inches are squashed into an oval. Will bring my average speed up by 0.0000001mph.

People don't actually buy seat posts because they are aero? I am switching from a suspension seatpost to a standard and needed a cheap seat post with 20-30mm layback.

OPEN Frameset. Great choice. Best VFM frames out there IMO.

Yessir...
Because I'm fitting a new fork with more travel and a much longer axle to crown number, that has an effect on stuff like the bb height, stack, reach, seat tube angle, standover and so on, as well as the immediately obvious stuff like headtube angle. If you fit the fork by itself, you end with this (red stock/blue modified):

So, to counter that, I'm fitting the angleset - in this case negative 2 degrees - which when fitted even by itself, has the effect of actually lowering the front end, in addition to the expected slackening and extending the wheelbase.

I've been super-deep into the detailed geometry calculators online - amongst others madscientistmtb.com, and bike-stats.de - and with some clever maffs (innit - I knew advanced trigonometry at school would come in handy one day read ), and knowing the axle to crown lengths for specific forks, and the amounts for various sag %s, you can calculate the optimum for your preference using the angleset, and then with other stuff like removing stem spacers, you can effectively cancel out a lot of the undesirable effects of the new fork geometry - so the end result is something like this:

Result should be a super slack and long front end with a significantly better long travel fork, that should absolutely shred at the lift park mountains where it gets the majority of use, but while preserving the original feel and pretty much the same bar and seat position so it remains rideable.

I was also very inspired when reading about the Chromag Doctahawk, and there is no 'right' way of doing things, just suck it and see. If it does suck, or it's too slack, or I find it's simply too much with having to weight the front so much, it's all easily modified or reversible. Can always back off the slack again, or raise it up. And if the frame doesn't like it, I'll buy a replacement frame and start again.

Works components were super-helpful with some very specific queries too. Highly recommended so far.

Absolutely noted, and extra time will be taken for sure to get it spot on. Definitely not entrusting this to the lbs

A longer front stem can help if you slacken the front.

My Geometron has a 62deg HA IIRC. Couldn't get on with it at all on a 35mm. Night and day better on a 50mm stem.

Noted (mine is already 50mm actually) as can extra rise on the bar.
Un exemple:

It's been really quite interesting delving into the minute detail of this stuff..looking forward to seeing how it rides when it's done.

Yes dude! I was expecting you to say 65. down to 63 but that was epic. I asked because I have one, I went from 66 to 64. i like it, Haven't noticed any detriment to BB height or reach & it's super good downhill but the trade off is it can be a bit floppy climbing. Def have to concentrate on lines going up. Be interested to hear your experience after a few rides.
