Useful to know. And glad yours work. Which setting do you run them on?
I tried ergons and sqlabs enduro/DH grips... The latter being the best so far.
I fitted mine as they advise to when you first fit them and that's what they call 'medium' which is bang in the middle of the range. I def don't feel the need to go firmer but it's nice to know I've got two levels of softness left to play with should I still be getting fatigue or arm pump. I was looking at these recently…but I’m actually considering moving to push on grips from lock on, as in theory it should be a bit softer without the lock on ‘tube’ inside.. Now everything control wise is removable without having to slide off the end, as long as the grips are stuck down (hairspray/wd40/spray paint) there shouldn’t be any issue..
Helpfully ODI do a push on vans model as well as my current lock on vans model so I can do a direct b2b to test the feel
I love Vans and love those grips, I've a 3rd bike running hand-me-down part worn deathgrips that I want to try a set of those on. Helpfully ODI do a push on vans model as well as my current lock on vans model so I can do a direct b2b to test the feel

If you've heard of AstonMTB he's a guy out in France who does nothing but honest MTB reviews as he has no sponsors or supporters to appease and he swears by old skool non lock-on grips. I seem to remember it was for the exact reason you say in that they naturally have more rubber on them and that they can also still rotate very slightly on the bar....

Quite mixed reviews last I looked. You tried them?
I'm going to try a smashpot conversion on some old pikes I have fitted to my hardtail. Other than the faff of getting the spring weight right, I've always preferred coil forks - although my EXT Era forks that came on my Geometron get damn close.

I did a Vorsprung coil conversion on a set of old Rev's that I also gave a damper upgrade at the same time and they're the best fork I've got, absolutely amazing! They're currently sat on a shelf doing nowt as they're 27.5 and 160mm which isnt right for any of my bikes right now but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a cheap set of 29" 35mm boost lowers that'll fit so that they can go on my hardtail.
I currently have across three bikes a set of Fox 36's, some DVO Diamond's and a Formula Selva R. These were a 2018 Rev RC that were largely worthless but a Smashpot coil conversion along with a damper and they're the best forks of the lot.
Like you say, I just don't think you can beat a coil....

Of course the real reason is the lock ons in white are discontinued and unobtainium, and the push ons in white are still readily available

Making the most of my wiggle increased discount, which ended today.... didn't think I could push it to carbon wheels, if I wish to keep my dangly bits.
My bike toolbox is overflowing, so I *had* to buy another one, with drawers....
(ETA: and some bits to finish off my restomod Raleigh Record Sprint.)
Congratulations to Wiggle on being the only UK retailer to deal with EU Customs issues without any problems. Always arrives without having to pay duty on top of VAT. My bike toolbox is overflowing, so I *had* to buy another one, with drawers....

This lot arrived yesterday - 2 boxes.
I was worried they'd be delivered whilst Mrs RC was around, and of course, they were....
She didn't mind, thankfully.
(I'd spent a good day over the weekend cleaning the garage up and sorting a lot of stuff, so I had a bit of extra space for the new. larger toolbox. Oddly, when I put the other stuff into the new box last night, it was quite a squeeze! )
Dammit Wiggle!
£75 for a POC MIPS helmet, couldn't not!
Only in the purple and Medium at that price but it's exactly the colour and size I'd have ordered anyway....

Nice feel to them though. And you can certainly feel the movement in the grip.
Another Varia RTL515 traffic radar here.
I was a little 'meh' on the idea of this, especially as previously my choice of cycle computer phone app didn't support it. But now it does support it, and for £130 it's a complete no-brainer. If you cycle on the road and ever look over your shoulder to check for traffic (which is surely everyone who cycles on the road) then you'll benefit from this. It detects traffic much much further back than you can hear, and I feel sure that the increased light flashing rate when a vehicle is close behind makes drivers more attentive and polite. Obviously it doesn't negate shoulder checks entirely, but now I only check if I'm actually about to cross a lane. It also stops the whole phantom car (where wind noise sometimes suddenly sounds like a car).

I still struggle to see the point of these. Sure if you are hearing impaired or have a damaged neck then they make sense but otherwise?I was a little 'meh' on the idea of this, especially as previously my choice of cycle computer phone app didn't support it. Not sure I have ever been subjected to a car just suddenly appearing out of nowhere.

It's not for everyone, some (most) are gonna hate it, but I love it.
Nah it's def a bit of me that, the tyres I'd probably want to change but other than that I'd def rock that all day long, love a 'loud' bike. Edited by GCH on Wednesday 19th April 17:51
