Wasn't planning to get new wheels yet but checking over the bike this affo found the bearings were worse than I thought. Doing ride chester in the morning so excuse to go shopping. Didn't want to spend a lot, got these Mavics for £330 at the LBS, seem to roll well.

^^ How my bike used to look.

Over the years I've acquired road tyres, and an air horn for those city centre pedestrians, but my latest change has been from stock Tektro Novellas (cable) to hydraulic Shimano M355s. They cost me £40, were an inplace upgrade, and it would have cost £20 to change the pads anyway (further complicated by a stubborn front caliper).

After snapping a spoke on the C2C, I got my rear wheel repaired on my road bike and when I got it back I started having a closer look at it. Long and the short of it, it's approaching the point where lots of bits are approaching replacement time.

Had a discussion with the domestic authorities, and agreed that it would be about time to buy a new road bike smile

So, today I bought a new pair of wheels, tyres, tubes, cassette and chain for what will now become my winter bike wink

A cheeky email offer from Le Col has seen me into a gilet and set of arm warmers for £50, ready for my attempt at Tiede later this year.

You’ll definitely need those on the way down - was bloody freezing when I did it, despite being in the 20s on the way up!

Looks cool, but I can't justify it currently.

Just ordered this which, I reckon, could enable me to make a rear brake caliper into a front one for my fixie

I don't remember removing the front brake from it, but I haven't used it in 2 years and it hasn't got one. It definitely did have one and the cable in still there ready and waiting...

I found a brand new SRAM force rear caliper in my box of bits so it might work out OK.

New (to me) Genesis Datum frameset. I’ll be building it up as a foul weather/winter bike with full guards. Got a Ultegra 6800 groupset and some Hunt four season wheels to complete the build with.

Although it’s second hand it has never been ridden and has just been stripped down from a full build. As such it is as new. Got it for less than half of what Genesis are wanting for a brand new one so well chuffed. What the pictures don’t really show is the beautiful deep paint finish. It flips and sparkles in the light and could give a fair few custom finishes a run for their money.

Just bought a Hiplok Lite. Hoping it suits my purposes of popping to the shops on the road bike! (I use an Abus Bordo on my mountain bike)

Ha! Where in Holland?

I use my Abus Bordo 6000 everywhere I go, and (touch wood), I’ve never had anything happen.

I did once get my bike stolen, from my shed, but that wasn’t locked up! (Incidentally, I also got that bike back, and still ride it daily!)

My other plan was to use this lock as a secondary lock because, whilst I have other locks, it’s nice to have this as a second option.

Perhaps I just bought a pointless thing...

I'm going to build up a new commuter, picked up a "few" bits in one ebay auction last night.

£425 for a 2017 Caadx Apex 1 (so 11 speed 1x and hydraulic discs) - only it hasn't got any wheels.

Having no wheels is fine, because I don't really want a cross bike and bundled wheels are usually bobbins.

Here's some pics from the auction - wheels not included, so this is not a complete bike!

It has a deda zero stem, a carbon seatpost and 3t ergoterra pro alu bars over the original spec

Hopefully it's not completely shagged.

Bargain indeed. I've been looking at 1x11 hydraulic groupsets, and those alone are £500ish.
