So Cotic very kindly donated one of their Cascade frame and fork's to a bike shop to auction off to raise funds for the family of a colleague/workmate who sadly lost his life recently. Aim being to help towards funeral costs to take that stress away from them.

I won it in the end with a fair bid that wasn't a huge amount below RRP but it went to a good cause and I saved some money.

So, I'm now about to get a Cotic Cascade gravel/adventure bike and I've got some weird ideas about how it's going to get built.....

Nice one smile

How many steel framed bikes have you got now?!

This'll be the third that'll actually be built up.

Got my RocketMax, my Marino, this when it's built and my Hello Dave frame which is sat on the shelf waiting to take over from the Marino at some point.

Had my eye on the Cascade for a while and always had an itch for a gravel bike and this auction was too tempting. Gonna be a weird hybrid of gravel/MTB in the way it's getting built...

I've actually already got 95% of what I need already with Cotic having sold me a few extra bits that they're going to chuck in the box.

I'm only really missing a Hunt front MTB wheel of some sort (already got a rear Hunt wheel), dropper post that I'm going to wait until it turns up and built up before I decide on drop height and a saddle which will be a SDG Bel Air 3.0 from my LBS (I run those on all my bikes).

It's going to be less shiny and more cobbled together TBH, not a particularly 'considered' build more just what I've got which I may improve on as I ride it and feel the need to tweak things.

Main priority will be to just get it built up and get riding it, I'll still try and keep it tidy looking though.

New shoes and helmet for the new season. Would be rude not to at those silly prices, £44 for the MIPS Speedframe and £35 for the 5 10s

What do you think to the Speedframe? When I tried one on the retention system seemed to have these weird tabs on the back that dug into the back of my head, got a mate who said the same.

A pair of Juin Tech cable/hyd callipers picked up on ebay last week have been fitted to the gravel bike along with a new chain. The brakes feel great even before bedding in the pads, but the chain is skipping slightly on the cassette so I’ve just missed the window of opportunity to change it seems. Anyone seen any deals on a GX 10-42 cassette smile

So far so good, super comfy. Maybe it's the shape of my head!

Some subtle shoes...

In all seriousness though I really rate these shoes, I already have the PAS pair in white and they've been the best shoes I own. I lose count of the amount of shoes I have bought and wasted money on trying to find the right fit for me.

Battered non-runner Hon folding bike from the next door village, €70:

I had all the replacement parts on hand, including the Dahon fork:

It runs really nicely. These are handy for a combined car/bike city commute as they go easily in the back of an estate.

I had my Wattbike serviced last week. Best £200 I've spent in a long time.

The guy came out to my house to do it and ended up replacing half the bike. New crank/chainring, chain and bit that pushes against the strain gauge. He fixed the slipping seatpost, replaced the lever hood covers and batteries and even the bottle cage, which had cracked.

He said that internally, it was in the worst condition he'd seen in his five years servicing them. The upside is that it now runs beautifully smoothly and quietly and I've gained about 30w. I had wondered why Zwift races had been getting so hard.
great tip - thank you
