converted my 2x SRAM crankset to 1x for £30 with a race face narrow wide chainring. (crank was SRAM s-1400).

Straight swap and so much nice to go down to ten cogs and ditch the changer.

So you’ve got the SRAM gear setup?
What it like?

Bought one of these in Candy red a while ago, was in Go Outdoors Jan 10% off & got cashback from Nationwide. This is for my odd trip into London to get me from station to customer. Used it once so far from OPC Tonbridge to Tonbridge station, then Charring Cross to Victoria. Works well. Riding in London is a pain though, pedestrians are lethal!

Older Charge Cooker 4 like this, https://www.thebikelist.co.uk/charge/cooker-4-29er... so SRAM x7 and x9.
I never have liked the SRAM shifters (prefer Shimano) but the rest of it is joy. Mostly flat cross country rather than anything serious down or up hill. Crank is S-1400, cassette is SRAM PG-1030.
I have seen the benefit of less chain rings first on my roadbike (switching to two chainrings) then on a pinnacle neon (one chainring) eight speed.

I can't say I have missed the added complexity or find it any more difficult / less enjoyable and the narrow wide chainring on the MTB hasn't thrown the chain once.

Two chain rings keeps the chain inline with the perfect inline drive line depending on what gear you need, no?
Anyhoo, I am new to all this and most of the above you may as well be speaking Swahili!

Charge Cooker though. What a stupid name for a bicycle!

1 x Rema 'Tip Top' puncture repair kit (traditional type).

I was out riding today and got the dreaded deflation thing. Terrible road surface, badly patched, a tiny piece of flint was to blame.

On getting out my patch kit i found I was down to my last two patches and the glue (vulcanising fluid) has been open a while too. I wasn't too far away, so I re-routed to Pedal On in Tadley to pick up a new kit.

£2.99 too! Proper pushing the boat out today...

Between the puncture and gassing at the bike shop i managed to extend my elapsed time by an hour and 15 minutes over my riding time.

I'm glad I triple-checked the tyre for the debris too. Twice round the inside of the tyre with my thumbs revealed no intrusive sharps. Eventually I found the puncture and repaired it. Then I held it up to the tyre to find where to look, and lo and behold, turning it inside out revealed the nasty little piece of flint right where the tube had holed. Which quite probably saved me from a repeat performance a few hundred yards down the road...

Some Rapha bibs and a Rapha jersey. I don’t like the association much, but the kit is serious quality, so I’ve gone for the kit with the subdued logos. It’s properly comfy, I’m well impressed.

I never thought I’d see the day when I said this, but tubeless is starting to actually get quite good on road bikes now. There are still some limitations, but all in all, I reckon the latest generation of tubeless kit is worth a punt. I’ve had one or two minor teething troubles, but if you remember the ‘just in case’ spare tube and levers ( which I didn’t last time out ) they are now quite useful. I’ve changed my mind a couple of times, so I’ve been a ‘waverer’ but I have just got another tubeless wheelset for my belts and braces upgrade of an old bike of mine, and I’m getting used to them now.

I’ve cycled hundreds of miles on my Mavic tubeless road wheels over the last 18 months without (touchwood) a single problem.

I carry a spare tube just in case but I can confirm that if you leave the tyres on as tubeless for some time they almost weld themselves to the carbon wheels yes

Where did you find them? smile

I bought a new bike yesterday. Specialized Allez. Wanted a cheap road bike and it seems to fit the bill. I'm getting a free bike fitting for it on Friday too. Never had one before.

Pair of these as they had a 25% off deal over Easter. Have their winter bib tights and they are quality.

Two helmets. Both for my son though.

A Giro Tremor trail helmet, which looks like a mini version of my Montaro helmet, as the cheap helmet he has been using for the last few years isn't great and even my wife agreed it needed to be replaced.

And an IXS Xact full face helmet for his birthday. At £45 on CRC I thought it was worth a try. He got a taste of the BMX track last week and has still been talking about it today, however the rule is that a full face helmet is needed for the proper sessions on the track.
