Did my annual bit of tax evasionavoidance and bought some new wheels on Cycle2Work for gravel use (there’s a canal towpath on my way to work). When I requested the voucher the wheels were full price, but after it had all been processed and I was ready to order, it turned out Halfords were doing 20% off on spend over £150 (ends Monday!)… so…

Ultegra 8170 C36 wheelset - yes, I know they’re not the coolest but I’ve got the C50 for road use and they match my groupset. I love Shimano hubs, and having the same hubs makes swapping the wheels a doddle as the brake doesn’t need to be re-centered.

And then ‘free’ stuff to make up to the £1200 voucher…

Pair GP5000 TR S tyres
Pair Schwalbe G-One Allround tyres
Park handled hex wrench set
Park master link pliers
Park disc rake pad spreader
Park magnetic parts bowl

Pretty happy with that lot for a shade under 700 quid smile. Guy in Halfords expressed some surprise that they sold wheels that cost more than the bikes they sold.

Heads up. Muc Off (on their website) have some ally replacement pre-load adjusters to replace the crap plastic ones you get on SRAM cranks. 10 quid a set reduced from 25.

I've just ordered a couple of sets as one of my plastic ones has come loose.

My sea sucker carrier arrived today so I tried it out…

Seems pretty good to but I think the first proper use will be quite nerve racking given that it’s only held on with suction.

Looks familiar! I have to reverse mine as it’s bigger.

Still nerve wracking though!

Pretty sure the SeaSucker instructions say not to do that?

Quite possibly - bought mine used so no instructions. Sadly the roof of a Z4 coupe isn’t flat, so not really any other options.

Done a couple of (sub 1hr) journeys with it and it’s not fallen off! Z4 is a second car so only very occasional use.

i used to have a Z4 so familiar with them, could you not mount it further back and have it the right way round?

I assume the concern is the front mount taking the majority of the load and only having one sucker that way round.

What bike is that? I really like the look of it. Fancy building a hard tail in the near future.

It’s a 2021 Yeti Arc, and I would totally recommend it. Evolved a bit over the years but I utterly adore it. I have a bit of a hard tail obsession (also own an RSD Middlechild Ti, also an epic bike, and a Pipedream Moxie which I’m on the fence about) but this is my favourite.

Have another shoddy picture!

Oooh, always fancied a Yeti since the 90s. I’d probably have to get one in traditional teal and yellow though. I do like the brown saddle and bronze parts contrasting with the black on yours.

Nothing sexy. Replacement SKS Speedrocker front mudguard straps. These have been tricky to get but appeared on Amazon smile
I've just fitted a set of SKS Speedrocker guards to my new gravel bike.

They were recommended by a chap in a LBS which is closing down. He showed me his bike, with them fitted. Which seems to be a pretty good recommendation in itself.

I've only got one ride in on it so far, but it was a 100 km gravel ride, so a decent shakedown. And I have to say, they're impressively stable, surprisingly silent, and although a tad fiddly to fit it was just a question of time and patience, rather than being technically difficult. My only complaint is mild toe overlap when turning tightly, where there's no overlap without guards.

They look OK, too, in my opinion...

Sea sucker to say not to reverse the bike (mine is a Talon).

It fits right at the front but has to go on one side rather than the middle because of the shape of the roof.

Used it with my Kenevo SL and it didn’t fall off…

A second hand bike trailer to cart the kids around in and some cheap ELOP pannier bags for the journey to work.... 11 miles with a laptop, lock and clothes in a rucksack = a very sweaty back.

Two cassettes for my newer Cannondale eMTB

Question

Do you think Shimano M600 cassette are made of Toffee ? Lesser than the my Cubes SRAM NX Eagle Cassettes ?
I can’t believ one is wrecked in 500miles according to LBS

I used to get a good three or more chains to one cassette on a SRAM

I've been eating chains lately. Three in 100 miles on a brand new drivetrain & a three ride chain started sounding like a washing machine full of cutlery on Tuesday, so I've ditched Shimano & going with KMC to see if things improve.

For the record, I had 2500 miles out of the first two Shimano chains, then about 150 out of the next three. I can only presume I've wandered into a bad batch but there's only so much stopping on the trail & getting out the chain tool I can take,

Broken Chris King wheel, leaking from every spoke more or less on the rear wheel. Sent in for warranty and LBS installing a set of scope wheels for the interim.

Assume the first pic is after you removed the tubeless tape?
