I've gone for the red and black too. Exactly the same spec as you. I ordered the cages and black water bottles too. Annoyingly they have sold out or Garmin mounts and hangers. So I'm desperately trying to find a second hand Garmin mount.

My cycle clubs colours are red and black so I'll already be colour coded to the bike. Funny you mention the leg shaving, i did it last Saturday in prep for Ride London. SWMBO commented that it looks feminine, I think she's just jealous that I did such a good job of it!! smile
Yea I did the same, got the cages and a few bottles. You might be in luck with the Garmin mount, I'll explain. I spoke to the Live chat team and they told me the mounts wouldn't be available for 3/4wks, so I went onto eBay and bought a knock off for £40 (lot of $$$ but reviews are Ok.) Then the next day by chance I was looking at the accessories page on the site and the mount was available, so I ordered the legit one too...

So.... if all goes to plan, next week I should get the bike, a legit mount and a knock off one! I'll let you know if the knock off one is any good, If it is you can have it off me at cost or I'll just return it.

Has yours arrived yet and do you have a UPS Tracking Number? I am being played about a bit and have been told it was going to be despatched on various days - but still nothing...

Oh bloody hell, this just makes it worse. After being promised despatch again for yesterday they failed and it still didn't leave. So at about 4pm I got on the blower - it took 69mins for somebody to answer...

Anyway, got hold of a very helpful chap. Explained the story and he went through my order with a fine tooth comb - he found an issue with the order (something internal) and my order has been sat on their system for exactly 2 weeks and hasn't been touched.
I was staggered as I have spoken with 3 other staff last week and was fed various stories on why the bike hadn't been delivered...but they were all under the impression it was with UPS!

So the geezer said he'd put a message through to the correct department and get the bike processed ASAP. I refused and demanded that they take more action than an email to a different department and march down to said department and put the bike on the lorry otherwise I will cancel the order. Said department was closed at that time last night, so the chap has promised to sort it out this morning and call me back at 10am...

So... whilst complaining about issues when ordering a >£4000 bike is very "First world problems", I am starting to get a bit fed up with the whole scenario and the shine has been taken off the whole experience already! I even went down to my LBS (which has >100 bikes on display) - but ultimately this has just confirmed that I do want the Aeroad... It seems good value compared to similar bikes on the market...

Get a picture up...

B;limey, I'm not surprised you're annoyed. Hopefully they sort the issue today and it'll be winging its way to you very soon. All I know is, you won't be dissappointed.

Anyway, here's a pic to whet your appetite....I'll put some more on the new bike thread

I love how clean the frames are without rim brakes! It looks really nice...
I dont know about you, but I have bought quite a few new bits of gear to go with the bike - been building a small wall out of Wiggle/CRC/Sigma/Tredz/Merlin boxes in my office... just opened them all up and realised Ive got a bit carried away! Will have to wait until she is out before I bring it all back home!

- Fizik R4B shoes in Black and Red
- Fizik Antares Saddle (Dont get on with the Arione)
- New Pedals
- Canyon Bottles & Cages
- Castelli Bibs
- Castelli Jersey
- Castelli Coat
- Canyon Garmin mount (£40!!!!!)
- New Socks!!!

I best up my training a bit now...

Bike arrived yesterday afternoon and I am officially in love - Its finished very nicely and looks awesome. I put in a quick 20miler last night and 26miles this morning and its very quick. DI2 is awesome, razor sharp shifts every time. It makes getting into the big ring so easy, can just easily knock it up and down from down in the drops. Also the Discs seem pretty good too, can really hammer up to a junction and have complete confidence you can pull it up.

Quick image from the kitchen last night and then one from my ride last night with my friends Ultimate Aero = which is also very nice!

Awesome bike, saw a guy out on an identical one when I was out riding last Sunday, really stood out.

Just got to make sure you ride fast enough to justify the kit now ;-)
I think I can just about get away with it... not getting any slower put it that way.

Just out of question....how are you getting on with the Aeroad?

I'm wondering when they'll be bringing out an entirely new model, now that the UCI rules for road bikes are changing....I expect at least another year yet.

I'm going to be going for this hopefully before Spring time.....by which time they'll definitely be shipping with the new Ultegra groupset.

Cheers
I absolutely love it. Fast, pretty light, very stiff, brakes very well with the discs. Pretty comfy over long distances considering it can be set up very aggressively...

Done about 1000miles on mine so far and it’s not missed a beat.

Also gets a LOT of attention (whether this is good or bad!)

Get it bought...

Going through house purchase at the moment and I've worked out that once I've paid my deposit, solicitor fees, furniture etc etc I SHOULD have around £8-9k left over.....but I want £5k left as a contingency fund so that leaves me £3-4k.....the bike is £4050 at the moment, but once I add power meter, all the other gubbins it's about £5300, so I'm not too far off now. House should all go through either this month or very early next month, and then I'll know a lot more as to where I am in respect to being ready to buy the bike.

But I'll definitely be buying by Spring, I'm sure, if not earlier.
Nice one, I paid £4049 in a sale a month or two ago. Their end of season sale has it reduced to the same price....

I want a power meter, but decided on a Tacx Neo first to get me through the winter. So bought that last week (its awesome!) and will get a power meter as we head into 2018 (Mrs will kill me if I drop another bomb on a power meter considering what I have spent on biking this past couple months >£6k!)

Good effort! hehe Ever since riding with a power meter I hate riding without one now....not because I want to hit certain targets etc every single ride, but even on recovery rides I like to know the TSS etc which gets plugged onto my Training Peaks account. I want the bike 100% fully set up and ready to go before I ride it rather that get it, build it up and then have to change bits as and when.

I've spoken to Canyon and whilst they don't know for certain, they have said the original Aeroad was 2011-2014, and so this model could be 2015-2018 and so new frameset could be released September 2018.....but they can't guarantee that. So now I've the conundrum of buying one in Spring and perhaps be a bit disappointed I didn't wait if a new model does arrive (if it arrives September 2019 I wouldn't care so much!), wait until September next year and risk being disappointed a new model ISN'T actually released, or wait until September and buy the new model if it is released.

Decisions, decisions!
Ive never paid any attention to power as I just ride for fun with a couple friends... but since getting a little fitter this year I am starting to consider ramping up my efforts this winter with the view of entering a few semi competitive events next year.

Since I have had the Neo I have instantly become interested in power and am currently looking at the different Power meter options!

I see what you mean about the frame and a new model, but it depends how much you are going to use the bike. Even getting mine this August I considered waiting until next year, but I figured that I love the look of the bike, its always going to be too good for me and I will get a full >12months enjoying the thing before a new model is released. It also relieved the pressure of looking at new bikes - it started consuming my life!!

Apparently due to having thru-axles you need to get a converter for direct-drive smart trainers as it's not an open drop-out frame. Canyon have said the "remove the cap on the drive side where the thru axle is" and then use the Wahoo conversion kit. Don't suppose you know if it's easy to remove and then replace this cap? They have also said to be very weary about carbon frame on a TT.....I've been using a TT for ages on a carbon frame and haven't encountered any issues....although I've always been quite careful not to over-tighten. I think it's far less of an issue with direct drive trainers as, I think, they don't "squash" the frame like traditional TT units do.

Thank you.
I'm not using the Canyon on the Trainer, so dont know much about it. Im using my Giant TCR Advanced, which will be about half the price to replace if it breaks! Im sure when sat stationary pedalling in a controlled fashion at 200-400w its absolutely fine. But as soon as you start thrashing away, moving around and getting out of the saddle it certainly feels like the back of the bike is taking quite a bit of grief as the Neo doesn't move much. (Its only ever moved when I have been out of the saddle doing 900-1000w sprints during intervals.)

You'd have to be dead above the neck to do anything out of the saddle on a fixed turbo IMO. Totally mad.
Ive done it on hundreds of short sprint efforts and had no issues at all. Obviously it isn't full on chuck the bike between the legs out of the saddle as you would on the road - its just standing up to release a bit tension and use a bit of weight on a really high power interval.

Funnily enough I find the hoods and levers the comfiest on any bike I’ve ridden. At first I thought they looked odd but after using them for a few days I liked hooking my hands into them and grabbing on when out of the saddle...

It’s plain awesome. Smooth as you like, handles well and really holds the speed on the flat.
It also (not sure whether good or bad) attracts a LOT of attention as it looks really fancy in the flesh - be sure to lock it up and be asked umpteen questions about canyons.

As for speed it’s really hard to quantify in terms of outright average mph but where you will find immediate gains is braking! I doubt you’ve even considered it, but the discs will give you so much more confidence to barrel into corners and junctions and pull up late - it’s also nice to be able to do this with Just finger tip strength too...

Delivery. I had bad experiences with delivery - I’d personally try and forget it and let it arrive when it does.

However there is one problem with ownership! The bike is so smart you’ll have to ensure all your other gear is up to scratch! I’ve gone from a mix match of cheap gear to a full on red and black Castelli warrior!

Here are a few pics to get you excited...

Agree about the discs - I thought they looked odd when I bought the bike. But in the flesh they are much duller and look awesome...

You are right to be worried about the wind. I am just under 90kg and still get thrown around quite a bit when its very windy - so at your weight you'll be sailing away somewhere... I keep meaning to get some other wheels so I can keep the reynolds for best (looking at the Hunt Aero Light V2 or Kysrium Elite Disc)

The reason you like the Graffiti tunnel pic is because you actually see the shape and details of the frame. From the Canyon images you only ever see the bike side on and its not until you get one in your kitchen that its actually sexy as hell all over! Cant wait to get on mine over the weekend...

p.s we ordered 2 bikes at the same time, (Ultimate and Aeroad) and both took just 2 days with UPS although UPS and Canyon quoted 3-4 days.

Bike looks great... ultimate attention to detail would be the protone in the black and red :-)
Don’t start me off on that one... I had a Cannondale Supersix and Giant TCR in black and white hence the black and white protone! The canyon was actually bit of an impulse buy shortly after selling a car - the Mrs cock blocked getting a new helmet too!!

The extenders are a pain in the arse... unscrew the valve, screw the black extenders over the top and then plug your pump on the end of the extender...
