In all of my years of riding bmx/freestyle/ mtb I've never come across such a disrespectful tit as this.
Try racing XC, there's always aggravation, usually when the "Fun" rider catch the Youths and Juveniles on the single track, twice my mate's daughter was knocked off this season, by some petulant man boy who couldn't wait to get past.
Have you heard about the latest craze? hundreds of hoodie kids get together and ride around urban areas doing wheelies.

Bikestormz, innit....

I've seen it round here locally with the #bikelife that goes with it.
They invaded a spotted group when people complained about them. Their so called leader was 30 something man taking them out creating havoc. I thought that was on the worrying side to be honest. A 30 something man hanging around with kids!
I answered him on the social media post saying that what he is doing and encouraging is dangerous and if they do want to bike like that, take it off-road and no one will bother you.

I did get a reply, along the lines of fk you #bike life.
So I replied to him how about we # smash Cannock chase trails or # ride the Peak District.
No answer.

They've pretty much disappeared locally for the time being. Strange craze.

For years people have moaned and complained that kids dont "go outside anymore" and are always inside playing on their consoles.
Well, these ones have bucked the trend. and it should be applauded.

any havoc caused is only fleeting.. a minute of chaos, and then theyre gone.. all the boring people can carry on with their boring lives.

although the rest of the #bikelife st can fk off

And i love cannock chase, its epic. I need to spend more time there and discover more secret trails biggrin

Yep. They are utterly in the zone with their game face/raceface on even though they'll finish 27th-100th. Utterly bizarre. Like a parallel universe. Go to a race like the Sheffield Steel City and it's the polar opposite.

It's hard enough commuting on the bike (Iride the same time and route every morning and make sure I adhere to every light and use hand signals) and I'm sure some drivers recognize and respect this but countless times I've witnessed lights jumpers, hoping on pavement then riding at speed towards pedestrians to get through a bottleneck etc etc.

At my sons school cyclists use the pavement outside the front of the school to access the pedestrian only ginnel. That's caused at least one accident that I've witnessed.

It makes me embarrassed to be a cyclist.

I've spent a bit of time up there exploring, there is some real gems. Although just coming fast straight down at ridiculous speeds are my favourite lol. That whole valley the blue sits in can be riddden up on top and whenever you feel like getting out, well get out, right down the valley walls lol
Lots to do and explore

I didn't realise it was now compulsory to be a tt when you get out of the house.

I’m still slightly puzzled why they haven’t published a series of events. The papers keep mentioning he claims she was on her phone no one has countered that or rubbished it. In fact the review of the CCTV just confirmed he could have stopped in time so why not also say she was/wasn’t on her phone?

I think the judge summed it up nicely, "I have not seen one iota of remorse from Mr Alliston at all at any stage."

Does it make much difference?

He could have stopped. He didn't stop.

From the Graun: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/aug/23/ex...

Guardian article said:
Alliston allegedly shouted at Briggs to “get out of the way” twice before their heads knocked together
If there's time to shout that twice, then they'd be time to brake (which he did, just with little effect).

Guardian article said:
In the statement, Briggs said his wife’s death seemed “so senseless, so avoidable and so unjust” and vowed to try to bring about changes to the law
What: laws about not stepping out into the road without looking? Or perhaps, including pedal cycles into the death by dangerous driving law. Both would be a good idea IMO.

Still, there's no winners here, only losers, and it was a senseless death.

Surely the victim had some responsibility to make sure the road was clear before stepping into it.

I don't step out in front of any fast moving vehicles (car, motorbike or bicycle) without checking.

She paid the ultimate price and the rider is paying a price for breaking the rules and and lack of remorse.

Two wrecked lives in a fraction of of second, which could have been avoided. What a tragic waste.

A very tragic incident - plenty of interesting background and food for thought here from a cycling QC...

I can't help wondering how Alliston's obvious failure of "the attitude test" several times since the incident influenced the decision of the CPS / police about which charge to bring and also the decision of the jury on what verdict to return

He could have stopped. He didn't stop.
She could have stayed on the pavement she chose not too.

If I’m reading reports correctly she was close to a crossing and reported by the defendant (and not dismissed like his braking reports) to be on her phone.

Presumably this is why he didn’t get manslaughter as she attributed to her death?

If anything is to come from this it should be awareness to cyclists about their choice of bike and setup and an awareness to pedestrians about being alert however that seems to keep getting ignored.

That’s interesting reading especially regarding the variance in braking distances used in the trial vs what physics would say.

I acknowledge the fact that the outcome of the accident, the illegality of the bike and the lack of remorse had a lot to do with the sentence.

And as much as I have sympathy for the family of the deceased I also have some sympathy for the cyclist involved as I commute in London and have to deal with peds stepping out on a regular basis.

The last instance saw me on my ars* on the tarmac next to the wheels of a bus with suspected cracked ribs when someone exercised their legal right to walk into the road without looking.

If I need to carry a license & numberplate then so be it, in some ways it might be a good thing but it won't stop londoners from walking in front of vehicles, and with the rise of quiet EVs & cyclists in the capital its only going to happen more often.
