I threw in the towel yesterday. A passing typhoon saw off the first couple of days, then a couple of mtb rides didn’t exactly dent the distance. Having been riding hilly laps of an out-and-back route on Tuesday eve i found myself unable to repair a puncture at the turnaround point (of course it was). A 30min taxi home leaving myself with 420km to do in three days, all of which I’m at work laugh it rather took the wind out of my sails.

My original plan was to start on the mtb, tick off 60km per day before work then head out on the TT bike to ‘mop up’ any remaining distance - but there’s no way I’m getting that out in the winds we’re currently experiencing.

I could have done it on Zwift but I just don’t want to.

So I’m just going to focus on getting out on the bike every day - road or mtb.

4 of the last 6 years done. Was always going to be an issue this year as have a new woman in my life but had planned to try it at least. Broke a metatarsal and snapped a toe off on a door frame a couple of days ago so that's me not just doing the F500 this year but likely off the bike for a few weeks until I can actually get my foot into anything that's not a sandal again rotate

Ah well, next year's another year ! HNY all biggrin

Snapped a toe off?! That hurts just reading it.

Concentrate on your new lady, much more important than cycling smile

Well it was Thursday night TTT up the Zwift Alp tonight, always a laugh with the Atom Racing Team, a new PB which was nice and left me with 17km to complete.

So the 500 complete, indoors, if the weather is better next year then I may do it (May involve going to the Canaries)!

May doing a few more km tomorrow.

HNY to you all!

I tapped out at just under 380.

Most of that outdoors, it was just a tad wet and cold rofl

Still, that’s the food and booze burned off hehe

Done for another year. This is my fifth on the trot now. Might be time for a rest year in 2022. Anyway cheers and happy new year.

I weighed myself this morning and I’ve put on 3kg over Christmas. I burned over 13,000 calories doing the Festive 500 so even allowing for extra calories required from gels and drinks, I reckon I’ve halved what my weight gain would have been.

Interesting observation! I did about 10-11k cal in 500km have also put on 3kg (ish).

I went from 84km in Jan this year to a low of 72kg. Currently at 75kg. Need to target 70kg for this year and get 20min up from a max of 325 this year to say 340! (Or just hold the 325)!

I made a last minute decision to try this and managed to grind out the last 100km yesterday. The challenge was as much about finding dry kit to wear as it was about the riding. Total of 534km

Well done to everyone who completed it this year.

I’ve cycled 35km since Christmas so the F500 isn’t on my radar for anytime soon!

I'd echo the congratulations to anyone who completed the challenge this time. But at the same time, I'm glad that I decided to tap out after my Christmas Day soaking. My head just wasn't in the right place for it this time, so good on you if you found the motivation, and managed your time well enough, to complete it!

Probably all water weight too so will go in a week or so.

I managed it over 7 days in the end, was hoping to finish by 29th, but got soaked on a couple of days cutting short two rides. All done on my lonesome this year! 7th year in a row, the weather was just damp every day, although not much wind and mild which balanced it out, but probably one of the least motivated I've been to do it.

Covered 100km this morning to get started, not fully committing to the whole 500km yet, will see how boxing day goes (not riding tomorrow).

The weather is brutal here (west central scotland) for those brave enough to try this. A lot harder than previous years imho.

24th - 109.3km on Zwift

25th - Day off

26th - 33.4km on Zwift (hungover wife to take care of)

27th - 73.0km on Zwift. Wanted to do a turbo session then head outside for a blat to the leisure centre, but the snow came hard so just stayed indoors

Bit of an uphill task now

I'm up to 341km outside. I need to finish it - if I do - by the end of Thursday and although no snow down here in S Glos the weather this afternoon was foul and looks set to stay that way.

Edit: also I'm back at work on Wednesday
