Foolishly signed up (relatively new to road cycling) but this will give me the extra motivation. Woke up extra early and knocked out 98km to work (very long way round as its normally 20km). A good start and another 50km planned on the way home.

Good luck to all!!!

And 55km home so 154km today, a good start. Think I’ll take tomorrow off 😎

Merry Christmas all!

Good work, solid effort for day one! Around here there hasn't been a breath of wind all day and it's really p1ssing me off that I can't ride. Good luck to you for the rest of the challenge.

I rode on Christmas Eve despite some last minute shopping and a 120 mile round trip in the car to see my MiL. I'd feared I'd not ride at all at the beginning of the day. Managed 101 km too, so a big milestone for me, first "metric"since breaking my leg in May.

Christmas Day was a bust in cycling terms. I'd agreed to not riding ahead of time. Family day, including no internet too.

Boxing Day we were going out for lunch, but I managed to bump my total up to 146 m ridden with a couple of laps of Farnborough Airport, before driving up to Runnymede for a short family walk followed by a restaurant meal. Every calorie I burn is swiftly replaced.

Now that the mist/fog from this morning has lifted, and the temperature is up a wee bit, I'm hoping to get a decent ride in today...

Early starts so far! Out at 7 for an hour christmas eve morning before work, then a couple more hours in the evening, cut a bit short as the temperature plummeted when the sun went down. Then out at 6.30 on Christmas Day for just under 3 hours, and 7.45 on boxing day for about the same amount meant I ticked over 50% and just over a day ahead of the daily mileage required. Back to Work today, but had a bit of a lie in! I'll aim to be about half a day ahead come the end of Saturday where I'll likely have a short ride before I head up to the darts and aim to mostly finish it on Sunday (Hangover dependent). The weather this year couldn't be more perfect for December riding!

Still managed to put on weight, although think I still have a mince pie from Christmas day digesting through me as I type this.

I'm starting to struggle. I pretty much stopped cycling at the end of the race season and have never been a fan of riding long distance, just back to back 40mi days seems to take it's toll at the moment.

Should probably make it as long as i don't miss any days.

Bahh Humbug!

As Christmas Eve is a normal day at work and NY Eve is also a normal day at work and Im working the weekend in between the RF500 is not something that Im itching to achieve this year, or any other year.....

Anybody who gets the badge deserves a bit of kudos for determination in the face of adversity and daylight saving but similarly is in no way ever entitled to complain about their work:life balance

Cheers

Managed to get out for a decent spell today...

107 miles / 172 km bagged, taking my total up to 198 miles / 318 km so far.

Gotta get another big ride in tomorrow though, as Saturday is out, and we're eating out again on Sunday. Monday I need to drive my wife to Bournemouth again and it's my son's 21st Birthday too, so I'll need to go easy on the disappearing act. I can fit a few miles in on Sunday, but the other days are looking stretched already. 114 miles / 184 km left to ride, and a day-and-a-half to ride them...

I'm at 239km right now having got another 88.9 yesterday with the local club.

I have to go out pretty much all day today to a golden wedding do across the country, but contemplating heading out into the cold and dark to sneak another 90 minute ride in. In fact, this post is part of my procrastination preparation.

Bloody good work, we have a winner!

I’m 350km in as of today and should be done by mid-morning on Sunday so I’ll have one day to spare.

To everyone else still going, good luck and keep pedalling!

Yeah, well done finishing already!

I've just hit 354km, had a weirdly fresh day, no fatigue or knee issues. Still looking good!

It's within "touching distance" now!

104 miles today. Now the #Festive500 challenge page on Strava says I've only got 14 km left to ride. That's about 8.6 miles in "real money", but I'd worked out that I needed 10 more miles?

Probably won't be able to ride again now until Sunday morning to finish it off.

Chuffed to bits really, considering that I was on crutches a few months ago. The leg/ankle has been OK, but achy shoulders (probably too much weight through my hands due to lazy core muscles) and, for the first time ever on a bike, a sore bottom, have taken a bit of the shine off riding long distances for me.

I did consider staying out to finish the challenge tonight, but to be honest I was spent. My average speed today was a lowly 12 mph, but no matter how slow I'm riding, it'll always be faster than hobbling around on crutches...
