Why do you believe it's better to use a petrol powered moped and get no exercise than an electric assisted bicycle and get some exercise? Not having a go, I'm genuinely interested in the rationale here.
To me it’s just like saying “if I get a e bike, I can make a token pedal stroke, and then use the motor and tell all my friends I’ve been on a really long bike ride, and they’ll be dead impressed”.You’re not fooling anyone. I’m not bothered about global warming or co2 levels, I don’t ride for that reason at all. That’s kinda why I’d rather see someone on a ped or a crosser.

You cannot make a token pedal stroke! You need to be putting torque through the motor for it to produce the assist. No pushing, no help. It isn't hard to understand. If I can manage 20Nm then this can assisted from zero to plus 60Nm ie 0% assist to 300% assist. There are many times when my assist is off when on the flat through eco, tour, sport and on to turbo as maximum assist. As my fitness level increases I 'gear down' the assist. Best fun I ever had on two wheels apart from scaring myself sheetless on a mates R6 a few years back. You’re not fooling anyone. I’m not bothered about global warming or co2 levels, I don’t ride for that reason at all. That’s kinda why I’d rather see someone on a ped or a crosser.

I like the irony of your second name You’re not fooling anyone. I’m not bothered about global warming or co2 levels, I don’t ride for that reason at all. That’s kinda why I’d rather see someone on a ped or a crosser.
None of my friends think a 38 year old arriving on a bicycle, motor or no motor, is dead impressive.
It pleases me that my choices annoy you

If you get the urge to spend, you might find it worthwhile getting one of the unrestricted ones and getting it registered, taxed (£0) and insured. It would up your range and speed considerably, enough to open up loads more uses I imagine.
I would defo consider it when this dies, I think this little weak thing derestricted will do 20mph plus. I really like the idea of a Sondors FatBike (LukeFreeman cover your ears) with the American 500 watt motor for around £1200 delivered (have to get around the European lower powered model they sell officially here). Up to 30mph and much bigger range, even have a thumb switch so proper CBA to pedal if wanted! It’s weird really, in countries where cycling is extremely common and something that everyone does, e-bikes are totally accepted but in the UK where many cyclist are essentially MAMILs or weird boy racers on 2 (unassisted) wheels, the e-bike is regarded as cheating.
I would assert that anything more complicated that makes rambling in bare feet is cheating. After all, I can walk much further in proper clothes and shoes than I can whilst naked. Yes, i am a cheater.
The desperate attempts by a few people to justify themselves and their choices by calling other people lazy or disabled is pathetic.

I'm intrigued by the strength of feeling that some people have against e-bikes as a means of transport / exercise.
Even though I was, for a moment, somewhat peeved when an e-bike passed our club ride on the road out of Dalby Forest, it didn't bother me for more than that moment. Just that there I was sweating like a beast and right on the limit, when this gent - who was surely less fit than me - drifted past without even being out of breath! Caused an expletive to be uttered. But only one.
Good for him I say.
I don't want an e-bike (yet), but I am glad they exist and I am glad people are using them.
A friend of mine in Norway has been using one to commute on for about 6 months or so now. He previously used the train. He is noticeably thinner and in better shape already.
Good for him too I say

Well our Cubes have arrived and they’re awesome. And very very green.
Just been for a short 8km ride on hills and tracks (it’s nothing but hills here - I live next to a thing called the Mary Towneley Loop for anyone that knows it).
It’s definitely not the lazy mans effort free thing, you still have to get some effort in, it’s just that you notice you’re going 25km, not about 10 that I’d be going on my normal MTB.
I don’t ride bikes to keep fit, I’m fit enough as it is. I ride them because I like riding them and to get to a destination. This thing fits the bill perfectly. And it’s green.

What's involved in this? Presumably that then stops you being allowed to use them on cycle paths / country parks etc...? To those who think ebikes are cheating, by that standard then so is using a normal bike with gears. Shouldn’t you really be using a single speed bike?
Are lightweight frames cheating?
Are low resistance hubs and tyres cheating?
Is Lycra cheating?
Is slipstreaming cheating?
