I happened across a Youtube video last night by some cockney sounding cretin called "Duxel" who was riding what is not an ebike or MTB, but an electric motocrosser - a "Sur Ron X" and taking it on the road to some bike park near Camberley, Video is him making out that it's fine, it's an ebike innit - the YT comments were the usual cretins you get on there so I never bothered commenting.

Absolute nob - it's not an ebike - it's a MOTORCYCLE, end of. He's probably got no licence, he definitely hasn't got insurance, registration, correct helmet, DOT approved tyres or anything else that he needs to have that out in public.

Normally I'd not be arsed, but these dheads will ruin it for legit eMTB riders at bike parks or even worse get legislation introduced in the same way that the "field bike" and illegal off-road crew have fked everything up for responsible, legal off-road motorcyclist.

Utter tit - I'm hoping to see a video at some point of him getting the godawful looking POS taken off him and crushed as well as bleating about the million points he ends up with.
He is well hated on the swinley Forest MTB facebook page.
Not surprised, he's a fking tool.

I've just found some references on FB to him.
I'm surprised he hasn't had a visit for the police - it's not even like he's up out of the way on the moors like the motocross boys do up here - he's riding round on the road and on bloody bike parks! He seems to think this is ok because "it ain't bovvering anyone, innit". Stupid cockney tt.

He ought to stick to enduro motorcycle days where he'd then see how crap it is.

Coming March 2021, it says - I've clicked "notify me"
I like the "mullet" setup on that.
Apparently the EP8 motor is very efficient so you could get a lot of miles out of that big battery - the spec is pretty good too for the money.
Well after ordering my Canyon Spectral :On on Feb 23rd I got an email today saying that they are shipping early,
So my credit card has taking a battering and I will be expecting delivery toward the end of the first week in April.

cool

That's good to hear - my friend just got his CF-7 in L, it only took 7 days as it was in stock.

We had a ride and the added 15nm is obvious compared to my E8000 although I only ever ride in ECO while I think he was in TRAIL.

Although I don't know if it can be derestricted yet as he was a bit surprised that I took off past 15.5mph...

We seemed to use power as a proportion of our respective capacities at the same rate, but then again in different modes.

I expect your EP8 with the big battery to yield 45-50 (proper) off road miles where my E8000 struggles to get to 40 in the same conditions with the 540kwh YT battery.

Came across his videos recently as it happens. Seems unable to comprehend that it's a motorbike when all is said and done.

Worse still is that he sounds like Jay from The Inbetweeners.

He has been to Danbury a few times too, posts as DeluxPlays on Instagram...totally unwelcome, but hopefully now he is loosing his anonymity Old Bill will come knocking.

Just a kid by the looks of his Instagram account, a robust chat with an adult would probably see him disappearing with his tail between his legs sharpish.

I’m hoping so - I can get over 60km and 1078m of climb out of Mrs DSs Cube Acid One with a 400Wh battery.

My main aim is to be able to do a 47mile lap of the Mary Townely Loop that runs right behind my house on one charge - I’m dubious that my 500wh Yamaha powered Haibike could do it.

I think the EP8 with a custom profile and limit of 50nm should be a safe bet.

Having suffered the ststorm that is specialized and its dealers on my Kenevo - the next visit will be my third in a month - You'd be mad to buy an ebike from anywhere other than your very local dealer.

I was chatting to my local shop chaps on Sat (not spesh but stock 4 brands) and they were saying that all the motors and batteries have issues.

They're great when working, but I'm rapidly falling of love with mine.

I'm 6 months into ownership of my Giant and so far, so good, apart form 3 years interest free credit I was also influenced by the fact the local (Portsmouth) based bike shop where I picked it up are very good.
It seems most makes are subject to problems, on Facebook the Giant community seems to report problems too but some are people de-restricting them and then wonder why they f**k them up.
I was pro active and sprayed everything with ACF 50 when I first got it, but I'm a self confessed fair weather rider these days so that may have helped. I guess water protection/vulnerability with electrics still has a way to go on E-mountain bikes.

As above - local support would be probably my biggest influence in buying an E-Bike now - assuming not wanting to buy an absolute spec that was unwavering.

I must admit that it is a worry - at least Canyon now seem to have a UK base to contact.

As above too. You will have issues and it's essential you have somewhere good to take it. My Levo has been problematic but the shop have been fantastic with everything covered under warranty.

I am not sure about "mad".

For balance, my YT Decoy is a year old and has had zero issues (I have probably jinxed it now).

I did consider buying with local support but the delta in price was significant - probably the equivalent of the cost of a motor and a battery. And I knew it wasn't a guarantee of success either and probably more of a guarantee of problems in Specialized's case. The other issue is that the bike I really wanted happened to be from a direct brand.

The direct brands are indeed a gamble but mitigated by Shimano's local support and in some cases a UK base (YT and Canyon).

Beyond the motor and battery, I can deal with any other mechanical issues with the bike, it's not very complicated.

Perhaps this is why the direct brands favour Shimano's reliability and network and Specialized simply rely on their network of dealers to sort the issues.

Would not swing me in the slightest. I'd want it 20miles radius for the faff,

I know Giant have regular software updates, not sure if some of them can only be carried out by the main dealer in which case being local is another plus.

GoCycle have released their new range of bikes, named the G4, G4i and G4i+.

Only minor design iterations. Quieter motor, titanium pin for the folding hinge mechanism, a single sided fork and some new tyres seem to be the main changes.

The carbon wheels are £1000 upgrade over the mag ones. £3400 (smaller battery/mechanical gear change/simpler dash/no DRL), £4000 and £5000 (as G4i but with carbon wheels) respectively. G4i probably the pick.

Was hoping for a battery upgrade as 375wh probably wouldn't last my 36 mile round trip with my 100kg arse, despite what they claim.

Also carbon fibre front fork and mid frame , USB socket on handlebars to charge phone and improved motor. The front fork has always been single sided.

I agree 36 miles on a charge is "optimistic" but could you buy a second charger and top the battery up at work?

Personally I am not sure the DRL, LED dashboard and auto gears on the G4i are worth the extra over the G4 - I'd prefer to spend the money on lights, mudguards and front pannier bag.

I've had a GS for a few years now - it's perfect for a city commute - these look like "solid" upgrades. Expensive but worth it I think - looking forward to seeing the reviews...

Whats the elevation like, and how much pedaling are you planning on doing?

I can make the 250wh pack on my Boardman last 100 miles or barely 20 miles depending on condition/usage.

Hills + going into head wind trying to maintain 15mph + cold will kill range very quickly. If on the flat with a light wind, 36 miles is probably OK, but in winter conditions in worst situation it'll be pushing it.
