I can make the 250wh pack on my Boardman last 100 miles or barely 20 miles depending on condition/usage.

Hills + going into head wind trying to maintain 15mph + cold will kill range very quickly. If on the flat with a light wind, 36 miles is probably OK, but in winter conditions in worst situation it'll be pushing it.

It would be Donny to Sheffield so not flat and the need to arrive at work not in a complete state would mean a decent amount of motor input.

I agree 36 miles on a charge is "optimistic" but could you buy a second charger and top the battery up at work?

Personally I am not sure the DRL, LED dashboard and auto gears on the G4i are worth the extra over the G4 - I'd prefer to spend the money on lights, mudguards and front pannier bag.

I've had a GS for a few years now - it's perfect for a city commute - these look like "solid" upgrades. Expensive but worth it I think - looking forward to seeing the reviews...

G4i also gets the 20% bigger battery, so for the £600 uplift along with the other upgrades that seems reasonable (as far as top end ebike prices go anyway.

Just realised all the G4s have fast charging too.

I think this is a solid upgrade over the GX and definitely worth the extra.

Sticking with my GS but these new ones are ridiculously desirable. Especially in the red...

I was thinking, it would look good in that Aston Martin green the F1 cars are using with the contrasting carbon section.

Need to test ride one and then man maths it to offset driving the Touareg into work.

I believe a normal warranty is only valid to the date it would finish on the original purchase even if the item is replaced.

So probably not.

If you are seriously going to be spending 2hrs+ a day in the saddle on the hills around Sheffield you need a 'proper' eBike. The Gocycle looks but its not really designed for the sort of commuting you are talking about.

Something like the Canyon On is much more suitable and similar price. It will give the range needed and looks pretty awesome.

It's not so bad coming from my way, the proper hills start at Sheffield and go West.

But yes I take your point. The aim is to be working closer to home within a couple of years too.

Also when shifts allow it would be home to local station and train to work so want something compact and the no mess of an enclosed drive system also appeals when wearing work clothes.

Isn't Deore stuff entry level? I'm sure it used to sit below 105 group sets but I might be wrong.

Its entry level but more than good enough for commuting, I have x1 Deore on my Boardman eBike which has been my commuting tool for the last 12 months. It's been utterly abused, this is the state of the drivetrain at the end of autumn. 3000 miles in and the Doere drivetrain is still faultless, but like others on here I have needed a new motor (Fazua) put in on the bike under-warranty.

Acera and Alivio are the entry level mechs, I’d say Deore is mid range and it’s MTB stuff so I wouldn’t compare with 105 which is road stuff.

The motor and battery on the Canyon is top class, for an eBike that's much more important.
