Tweaked my route a bit and knocked my cycle to work time down from 1 hour 11 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes. I took a couple of wrong turns so I reckon with a bit more tweaking and concentration I can get it down to an hour or less.
You are doing well to be commuting on the bike in the current weather!

The air-con in the car is far too tempting when the temperatures are hitting near 30 for the ride home.

I've been commuting on my derestricted Canyon Roadliteredfacen 6 since May, 20 miles each way, approx 900ft of climbs, undulating, nothing too steep.

Lost a stone so far (2 more to lose), usually cycle 2-3 times per week, managed averages over 20mph, yay I'm getting fit!

So this morning I thought I'd use my road bike instead - not used it seriously for a couple of years, lets see where we are at.......................

Christ, I hate hills - I'm still carrying blubber so hills will be tough, but dear god the e-bike has been masking them!

I did manage 15.9mph which I was fairly happy with.

Got to ride home at 4pm today <gulp>

So my E160RS had its first outing today on a flatish route which really stretched it biggrin

25.6km 1:07:04 62TSS av 144 max 164
25.6km 1:19:02 93TSS av 155 max 176

The above is comparing the T130 against it. What is really interesting is the E160 made it almost the perfect ride. Across the fields it just ate it up and held HR at 140-145. Need more time on it for sure, and it's already clear it needs a much more punishing route to make it work for me.

As an aside, it (not me) topped all but one segment by some margin on Strava. Don't worry Stravarists I kept it private so no need to write to Daily Mail biggrin Brakes still bedding in, suspension is lush. First time on flat pedals, not sure at all. Every time I took my foot off I twisted it to clip out smile Weirdly had foot cramp at the end, no idea if this is just the shoes needing some bedding in or something else.

Anyway.

Oh it is and its addictive, cycling is about having fun as much as fitness and eBike turn otherwise boring commutes into fun(and fast) bike ride you can do without arriving at work covered in sweat.

I average 17mph into work on my eBike, and this is my HR data. Whilst its no way max effort its also much more exercise than sitting in a car.......Give one a go, you might like it smile.

.....as mentioned you can go substantially faster even on a relatively low powered eBike, its just a simple issue of ensuring there is enough power to drive the wheels.

What derestriction have you used? Been looking at the Fazua powered bikes but not sure what method would be best with no issues.

I used a speedfun kit, 5 mins to fit and works fine. Unplug 2 cables underneath and plug in the widget, simple as that

I wouldn’t ride an e bike without one, a road bike assist cutting out at 15.5mph is pointless imo

You can also get a signal transmitter that fits over the stock magnet sensor to modify the signal. Another option is an EU based company who can modify the software to remove the limit but they charge quite alot for the software I think.

New e-bike has finally arrived, ordered it in January, had to wait 7 months for delivery!

Orbea Gain D30 X1 2021 gravel e-bike in black/silver. This has a number of improvements over the previous version that I owned. Revised frame, no external cables, all now inside the frame, and built in DRL's - daylight running lights! I've been on a road bike for 6 months and switching to this it feels so much more comfortable than the road bike. I cycle full time now and do about 6000 miles pa, I will mainly use this on my commute to work. Seems to have a slightly longer range over the last one ...30 miles on max assistance is only using about 1/2 the battery capacity.

I've been without an ebike for a couple of months since the rear carbon triangle cracked on my Haibike. Spares were unavailable as was a replacement bike so a refund was paid. I've been searching for a replacement since but obviously bikes are hard to find although 2022 models are starting to be released now. The Cube Stereo Hybrid looks pretty decent and one shop has delivery dates from 1st September, not sure how accurate that is though.

Can’t beat Cubes for bang-for-your-buck.

Check out the Canyon site too - you might find a build of a bike you like in your size coming through.

Mrs DS was after a new bike and just by coincidence the bike she wanted in the right size was available which was great timing.

ETA that Orbea Gain ^^ looks fantastic.

Agreed but tricky to rule out YT emtbs when the chassis and fundamentals are so good and above the rest.

As much as I like Canyon (I own one) the thought of the hassle of returning an ebike to them for any warranty work puts me off, same for YT.

They have a U.K. operation and motor related stuff they’ll just get you to send to your local place.

I checked on this as I have a broken Haibike with a Yamaha motor that I got from bikester with a .co.uk shopfront. Warranty is basically useless - Bikester appear to not want to know in any way or form - email (the ONLY way you can co tact them) messages take between one and two weeks to answer. Their customer service is non-existent. After the bike being in for repair for over three months and still being broken they refuse to replace/refund and want me to send back to Germany. However I am getting cold feet about this - how will I manage to communicate with them? How long will it be gone? I’m seriously considering breaking the bike and selling the parts.

My view: if a manufacturer or seller doesn’t have a real life, U.K. presence (as most of these discount and dump operations like Bikester don’t) then avoid. Spend that bit more and buy locally. It’s a lesson that I’ve learnt and it’s cost me a lot of money.

Agree on the ‘local support’ aspect - easy to overlook but versus some of the alternatives and the tales of timescales - the local factor would swing it next time

As for Cube Hybrid Stereos - some pop up on the FB group if you are paying cash….

Aren't Raleigh the UK importer?

Might be worth contacting them if you haven't already.

They initially picked up the claim, the bike was returned to me repaired. Rode it across the front lawn and the fault returned.

They then decided it was nothing to do with them, they’d fixed it by mistake, and my issue was with the seller. Who are ignoring my emails.

No matter how cheap - don’t buy from Bikester.

How many miles are people getting out of their 625 WH batteries?

I only use the assistance on hills and slopes and managed 70miles on the last charge.
