Electric bicycles - who buys them?

They have a motor so can't be ridden on the pavement and are not type approved for road use. Your living room is the only legal place.
Are you talking about ebikes?E-scooters and e-skateboards run on their own steam so are essentially motorised vehicles and have no formal approval.
Happy to be corrected with proof.

No, I think ebikes have separate legislation because you have to pedal them so they're considered bicycles. That's my understanding.

I don´t *think* they fall under motorized vehicle legislation as the motor is 250W.E-scooters and e-skateboards run on their own steam so are essentially motorised vehicles and have no formal approval.

The thing is on a motorised skateboard who would know? and who would check? no-one unless you where irresponsible and go really fast in a populated area.
Round here you can cycle on the pavement past a parked police car and no one would mention a thing. And if you are not being a danger to anyone why on earth would they?

Quite tempted by one of these, via cyclescheme. Just for the crack really, will only cost £600 odd.
Initially was told that electric bikes were not allowed (due to no health benefit!) but since found out that assisted are OK.

Before I bought mine I had a road test on several including the Wisper. I bought this one, the Oxygen:-Quite tempted by one of these, via cyclescheme. Just for the crack really, will only cost £600 odd.

No regrets.
I finally collected my Brompton Electric today:
The ordering process was a completed st show and it turns out they don't do proper QA testing at the factory so they shipped out a load of bikes which arrived at the dealerships DOA. It took them nearly two weeks to get replacement parts to fix it in the field and I was left quite angry at them!
However, I did my first commute on it today and it's perfect for zipping across London. Smoking everyone at the lights will never get old! Think I pissed off a MAMIL on Old St at one point because once he caught up, he gave a proper close pass and cut me off big time.

The battery is in a bag (you can see it on the desk). It comes with a small bag which would fit a phone, keys and other small bits. I ordered the optional large bag which will fit your lunch or clothes and up to a 15" laptop. Both bags have a USB charging port in them so you can charge your phone, iPad, spare lights e.t.c. on the go.
The bag fits on a special luggage block on the front of the frame in a way that's familiar to Brompton owners. This setup is pretty cool because the battery is removable from the bike, as well as the bag, and the motor has only a minute amount of drag when it's not powered so you can use it as a normal bicycle too.

Can I get one that will assist upto 25mph for under 1500 quid? Any recommendations please?Quite tempted by one of these, via cyclescheme. Just for the crack really, will only cost £600 odd.

Second-hand pedelec with a derestricted Bosch crank motor. The module to remove the speed limiter on them is about £130.A mate of mine commutes from Frankfurt to Darmstadt on a derestricted Bosch pedelec and sits at about 40kmh.
I keep trying to persuade my wife to let me derestrict her pedelec but she’s not having any of it.
