Electric bicycles - who buys them?

Round here it's not the hills (90 meters elevation on an 18km ride last night ), it's the wind, I struggled to get over 15kph pedalling down one slope last night. Old boy on an e-bike flew past me
Looking to move house next spring/summer and seriously considering an e-bike to commute on if I'm within 10km or so from work. That's fine to commute on a normal bike in nice weather but when it's blowing a gale and raining letting the electrics take the strain is a great ide.
90 metres? Do you live in the Alps?Looking to move house next spring/summer and seriously considering an e-bike to commute on if I'm within 10km or so from work. It's 8metres in eighteen miles around here, but windy. Eh Funky?
If you want to go fast on a UK eBike, buy a Specialized Turbo Levo or Kenevo then use the 3rd party APP BleVo set the limiter to what you want. mine is at 40kph
"Voids the warranty" so before you take it to a specialized dealer use the standard mission control app to set it back to standard.

Does it not bugger up the range?
Nothing changes with the Badass, other than the speedo reads at half speed. As soon as the speedo reads 15km the motor cuts off, but you are actually doing 30mph. Obviously if your using the battery power above 15mph then your using the battery for longer, so it doesn't last as long. And warranty will be void (but the Badass is easily removable in seconds if you need to take bike back to the shop).Edited by LeadFarmer on Tuesday 11th September 13:21

Warranty is not the issue - If you have a bump (your fault or not) your on an unlicensed/untaxed vehicle.....big problems."Voids the warranty" so before you take it to a specialized dealer use the standard mission control app to set it back to standard.

So what's the highest speed you can limit it to?

There is software for the Shimano system to, however it is a dealers only supplied thing as far as I can tell."Voids the warranty" so before you take it to a specialized dealer use the standard mission control app to set it back to standard.

Does this show the correct speed on mission control or is it just using the wheelsize trick?"Voids the warranty" so before you take it to a specialized dealer use the standard mission control app to set it back to standard.

Anyone looking for a good deal right now - selling surplus Haibike stock at the end of season. So gutted - I got my sDuro Trekking 7.5 a few weeks ago - with a discount - now you can get the Trekking 9 for what I bought the 7.5 for. An extra 800 discount on this range topper - grab a bargain while you can.

Riding a non-powered bike for 'better exercise', is a bit like going running in hiking boots. Sure you use more energy per mile, but you can't run as far, and it's not as fun, or as comfortable. In the long run, it's probably more sustainable to wear running shoes.
You can always count on PH to provide a spurious analogy. Here's mine: riding an eBike for exercise is like going for swim on a speedboat.

It shows correct speed and distance as its not a wheel size hackHere is screen shot of app setup, set at max assist speed 75kph, only thing holding you back is running out of gears.

Then to do the whole hog you need the range extender from a guy in Belgium making piggy back batteries in 3 sizes that look like water bottles to give you 50%, 75% or 100% more range.

Surely very few people who aren't keen regular cyclists get much over 15mph on a normal bike, so it seems a pretty sensible limit to me. On the flat I cruise at about 20kph (12.5 mph) on a normal bike, and few people who aren't lycra clad road racing types come past me at more than a few mph difference. Putting people who don't cycle that often on e-bikes that do double the average cyclists speeds might not be the best idea IMO.
I was speaking to a friend the other day who runs a bike shop. He said that most people who buy e-bikes from him are not enthusiast cyclists, and have very little cycling ability. They buy an e-bike and then ride it like a and fall off, even when it is limited to 25km/h. Most of them have never been 25kmh on a bike before, or ridden a motorbike, and these things will do 25kmh all day. He thinks that the speed caps are very sensible. bulldong said:
