I get irrationally annoyed by e-bikes. This is purely due to how they go flying past me as I grind up the hill on my way home from work. It just doesn't seem fair that they're not suffering as well spin
Its even worse when you are out with the wife and she is on your ebike while you have been relegated to something else - she's 100m behind - then woooshhh - gone.
She doesn't like going fast down the other side - catchup time.

Anyone looking for a good deal right now - selling surplus Haibike stock at the end of season. So gutted - I got my sDuro Trekking 7.5 a few weeks ago - with a discount - now you can get the Trekking 9 for what I bought the 7.5 for. An extra 800 discount on this range topper - grab a bargain while you can.
Link to these bargains please?
It was e-bikes direct - others may be able to match it if you ask nicely.

I was up in the Peak District at the weekend, struggling up some steep technical climbs on my bike and was happy to see that the ebike riders also seemed to be suffering, although nowhere near as much as me.

I did a couple of very steep climbs last week in Baden Baden and Bavaria - steepest I've tried on an ebike. I was still sat on the saddle but in bottom gear but no lower gears available (our Cubes only have a single front chainring). I was very much on the limit, especially on one which was loose stuff.

Ok I want assistance limit increased to double, topping off at 31mph and then maybe I can be arsed to do the rest. I am not the slightest bit interested in riding a mountain bike to gain fitness. I only want to ride it fast for FUN!
Then fit a de-restrictor to the bike, which will allow it to give assistance upto 30mph.

That would need a cadence of over 120 to achieve on my bike so not that sustainable really, but you could fit a larger chainring and compromise climbing or go for a system that supports more than one chainring.

As someone who appreciates the instant reward that laziness provides, is there one of these e-bikes, where you can whack up the assistance to say 95-99%?

I dont mind spinning the pedals a little bit, but would much rather have the fun bit and not have to put any graft in would be ideal.

They pretty much all have variable power levels, but most also have torque sensors as well as pedal cadence sensors so you do have to pedal with some effort, but nowhere near what you would normally, power levels range between +50% to +300% of what up your inputting by pedaling.

Has anyone tried the Bosch trick of moving magnet from wheel to the pedal crank?
I don’t think that works anymore on the newer-gen Bosch systems.
just a quick one, this does work on the latest 2018 models, but I believe not last years..... I was going to buy a chip but thought I would just try it..

bike is a bosch powered cube Acid Hybrid.

So, took out a Haibike Hardseven 7.0 hardtail e-bike out yesterday. I have loved bikes since I was a kid but stopped cycling so much when I was 17 and discovered a magical thing called an 'RD350LC'... I never stopped riding, and had a fairly decent Dura-Ace equipped racer until about ten years ago. Now I just pootle around on a folding bike.

I picked the Haibike up in Brighton and took it over the South Downs all day. My god! First time I have ever ridden one and it just blew me away. Anyone familiar with the South Downs paths around Brighton/Hove/Lewes/Ditchling area will know how steep and rocky some of them are. I wouldn't dream of trying to cycle up some of the really steep ones... but up I went on the Haibike, giggling like a child. I thought motorbikes were the best and most fun transport, and I've been riding for 30 years, but this E-Bike is just... so much more fun to me.

I ended up cycling much further than I would on a normal bike, but also where I may hesitate to go and look at something due to being knackered, now I just did it. People saying they are for lazy people is hilarious; it's just snobbishness. I am not far off fifty now, been in a couple of bike accidents involving an ambulance, and I just don't have the level of fitness any more. The E-Bike got me cycling for longer and further afield. At the end of the day my legs, arse and arms were like jelly but I was grinning like a fool. And if I had it today, I would have been back out doing it all again. For me, an E-Mountain Bike makes so much sense - all the disadvantages on road (tyre drag, long suspension etc) are negated by the motor. And off road - cycle across a field full of tall grass? Instead of all the strength being sucked from your legs by the grass, you just go. You travel further, get new routes, see new stuff, the possibilities are endless. If you want to go riding like a loon on a racer, that's great. Good luck, but I don't and probably can't. But if an E-Bike gets me out cycling every weekend, isn't that better than sitting on my arse in the pub or back garden?

I really want one now, and love how the prices seem to drop quickly - the Haibike sduro fullseven LT 4.0 can be had now for between £2,200 - £2,400. I'm not massively fussed about full-sus, but at that price it's hugely tempting.

That is one sexy looking bike - and as you say with the current end of year sales the time is right - get your hand in your pocket.
I have a Trekking 7.5 but wish I had waited two months as the Trekking 9 is an equally amazing machine now at the same price as I paid for an already discounted 7.5. At least C2W takes some of the sting out of the cost.
Have you seen photos of the new 2019 models - wow - but the price won't be near what the Hardseven 7 is now.
Ridden about 120 miles this week - 75 on the Haibike and the rest on an old hybrid.

Bet you wish you still had the RD - megabucks now.

The 2019 Haibike FLYON bikes look insane - 120nm motors! Built in lights, battery in frame... the hardtail is going to be about £4300 I think. I wish I had never heard of them!

Re: RD's, I do wish I had kept one of mine in particular; it was mint and had a full Stan Stephens stage 3 tune. I think I sold it for £700 (in 1990) and the lad who bought it threw it down the road a week later and wrecked it! Gutted. Still, rather spend the money on an electric bike now, definitely.

Here is the 2019 Haibike FLYON hard-tail:
