Great thread guys, keep up the pics too.

Just waiting on delivery of my first ebike, went for a cube acid 400. Bosch gen 3 motor and battery.

Hopefully Bosch are decent!
Mrs DS has one of those (and I used to have one too, but traded it in for a Haibike as I wanted to get into some MTBing), very good bike indeed. She has this rather good Topeak beamrack thing with an insulated bag that goes on the back which can fit two bottles of prosecco in it and some collapsible glasses. She carries the supplies for our beercycling trips.

As to the 400 battery - in hindsight I'd have gone for the 500, although we still managed a ride from Houffalize to La Roche en Ardenne and back last year (70km) with some bonkers climbs on it.

We've been all over the place on them.... here's me near Neuschwanstein...

Nice arse.

OT - but how did you turn that the right way round? All of the pics I try to upload now are sideways no matter what I do to them. They are normal on my desktop etc.

Just copied onto my IPad and rotated it using the photo app editor.

That’s the only pic I have to hand. It clamps onto the seat post (no use with a dropper). There are different variants of the beam - the straight one works best with the Acid 29er. Then you get lightweight side guards and these side bags fold out of the bag. I’ve noticed Halfords now selling this stuff.

ETA - of ffs I have NO IDEA why it's upside down. Shoot me frown
Thanks
We been toying with a variant of :

Absolutely chuffed with this!

Cube acid 400, only been out on a quick ride up a few hills in gale force winds and it's brilliant!

Wife had a go and she wants one now!

One thing I've noticed and others have said on here is the drag over 15mph, it is noticeable.

Also I'm not sure if the performance line motor is any good? Seems good to me!.

Coming from a skinny tyred cheap road bike the fat 29er tyres are properly comfortable.

Can't wait to take it on some trails.

Cheers for all the posts on here guys, brilliant info!

It's easy to hack apparently by moving the sensor? Tempted if it's easy. Anyone done it? (bosche)

That was the old motor - it doesn’t work with the current Bosch system IIRC.

If you want to derestrict you can slot a device over the speed sensor that halves the cadence going to the controller (easy peasy, €80ish) or splice in a derestrictor dongle thing in the motor case itself (requires more tools, €150ish)

Depending on the bike, you may be able to put in a smaller size wheel in the controller thing when setting it up.

Just been out for a hour bezzing round, amazing. So much more fun when you know a steep hill isn't a issue.

Made me want to keep going on and on.

Rode to work and back as a practice run for tomorrow and the way home all uphill took me 9mins instead of the usual 15. And it was a nice enjoyable ride rather than chuntering all the way.

I'm happy lol

There are two common options. Move the sensor or add a small electronic device that costs £120-£130.

Apparently, Bosch have modified their software to identify a moved sensor and you can end up with a locked device. Plus you lose the speedo and mileage functions. Cheap but unreliable.

This works a blinder, apparently. I might have fitted them to several of my bikes without issue wink

Yep. Got to take the crank arm off and the side of the case.

An easier Option is the BadAss box (or similar).

It slots on to the sensor and you only need to move the magnet along the spoke a bit.

The badass box creates the same effect as moving the sensor but just costs a lot more and it needs a battery to operate. It also means the speed, mileage etc. function don’t work. For the extra few minutes it takes to fit a speed box 2, it’s a far more reliable, invisible and useable solution.

It probably costs about 20p to manufacture in the Far East, then sell them over here for £130 odd.

What is it a few wires, a plastic box thing with a chip or summat inside? Job done!

Here's my Bergamont which I've now had for 2 year and a good few miles and is still really fresh regardless of the hammer it has had in Snowdonia.
This is taken in Llanrwst after a few lakes and the Sawbench twice.

Unsure of the point you are trying to make.

It works and is reliable which is what you are paying for (the research and development) rather than a few wires and plastic box rolleyes

Yeah, but you can’t just move the magnet to the crank arm and rotate the sensor round the other side of the chainstay on the newer Bosch motors. They throw an error code (apparently).

If you want to legally ride on the road and then derestrict at a later point on private land, something like the BadAss box looks miles easier to fit.

Screwdriver vs. 8mm Allen key/Crank puller/Torx driver.
