Lonboard Stuff...
Inspired by you, I've just ordered one to accompany my kids on their scooters as they prefer them to bikes. I'll be back when I've broken my hip and need my bed pan emptied.....Its really not hard. I watched loads of youtube vids on how to longboard. Basic skills etc. It really helped and made me realize how easy kids have it now with so much online tutorial.
In the 80's you just saw a pic of someone doing a trick in a magazine, or a two minute clip on a film. Then your dad would pass you a skateboard. No wonder i was crap.
Anyway, i wont clog this great thread up with longboard talk. We should start a 40's skateboard thread 👴
10 years ago sat on the sofa channel flicking, looked at Xgames & vert final, the commentator said Dennis McCoy, my old hero from the 80's, naa, can't be the same guy, it was of course. It made me look at my self & remember how much fun it was to ride. I started to ride & have ridden a couple of times a week since & im now 48. I had the pleasure of actually meeting DMC last year & i told him its his fault i'd spent all my money on bikes & riding, he burst out laughing & said 'thats cool!'
Check out RADBMX.co.uk, look up RIDE On on facebook as its the home of the 'over 40's rider'.
I find there are two kind of groups, the collectors & polishers who buy & sell bikes, show them off at show & shine events (look up Milton Keynes old school meet that happened a couple of weeks ago) and then theres the group who actually ride & learn tricks etc. Some people (like me!) do both.
The most important thing, the thing to never forget, always do this, is just to have fun. We are mucking about on kids bikes & i've seen so many people start riding again & have a nasty fall in the first week as they are trying to just straight back to where they were, they then never ride again. Take it easy, enjoy it, its a huge group & welcome to the club, be prepared for an expensive few years if you want to get proper 80's stuff

A mate and I (both 45) were into our BMXs back in the 80's and recently decided to get some to play around on now. Looking on Ebay for some of the bikes we remember, we were suprised at how much they can now fetch. Even Raleigh Burners...
We picked a couple of 2016 Verde BMXs locally. They are both complete but scruffy so we've stripped them and had them powder coated. His is the green one, I've gone for shotblast and clearcoat.
Every park where we live has a brilliant BMX/Skate park so we have plenty places to damage our bikes (and ourselves) once they're put back together.
I'm tempted by some new Skyways for mine but am concerned they may not carry a 12 stone bloke without breaking.

Have a look at AlansBMX.com
I'd be looking at a Haro Freestyler
Surprised how heavy many of these bikes are for their size. I know they take a battering, but bigger MTB's are lighter.
Unless the geometry has been changed I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole...actually I just wouldn't touch that with a barge pole I'd be looking at a Haro Freestyler

If you want an old school brand then at least go with one of their contemporary products...

I bought a bmx at about 39 years old...tried dirt jumps for a few months. Fell off a lot. Got back on a lot. The next time I rode my mountain bike I felt like I could ride it way more aggressively, simply because it felt massively stable compared to the bmx. BMX riding is a great way to improve your skills and bravery on two wheels.

Skyways will be fine mate, you wont break them but you'll find they will flex a bit & your brakes never work as well as they do on a nice chrome set of spoke wheels. Best bet, have skyways on your show off rider when out to the pub & spokes on the bike you ride at the skatepark splodge s4 said:

After contemplating it on and off over the last few years Ive finally given in...44 isn’t too old so I’m gonna join him lol. Just ordered myself a Kink Liberty 2019 which will be arriving tomorrow....it’s gonna be one hell of a long day in work tomorrow! As some other dude on here said, it’s kinda like a personal challenge. My aims are to try and learn manuals, 180s on the flat and eventually, hit some ramps. This is gonna be an interesting journey that I can’t wait to get stuck into...pics to follow ;-)

Nice! Have fun testing it later.I love going to the pump track with my lad, albeit on my MTB.
Ok what with a lack of things to do and ruling out a longboard i come to wanting a BMX. There is a small park with half pipe and box and also a pump track nearby so not short of things to injure myself on!
So age old question, is this a good deal??

Don’t really want to pay any more than this and whilst i don’t mind secondhand it would be difficult as would either need to go in an elise or a 2 series convertible!!

Taking it easy is not likely to happen but thanks!
I have also seen this which seems like a blast from the past and an absolute bargain if you can believe the price reduction.

Ok so received this yesterday, Subrosa Malum.
Went to my Local Pump track today. They have a small kiddie one with tarmac and a larger one with multiple route options.
I had about 20 mins and was knackered at the end of it (42 carrying a bit of timber). Managed the last rhythm section of the large track and four laps of the kiddie one without peddling.
Hope to get out again if not tomorrow then Monday.
Interested to hear from all but especially those just starting out as well for tips!
