Hi all, does anyone here commute from Dartford to Battersea? Or do a similar journey? Im thinking of cycling to work 3 or 4 days a week and wouldn't mint a few tips on the quickest route and how long it takes, ect. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It's been about 15 years, since I lived around that area, I'm sure some more local riders will advise on a cycling friendly ish route. Most choices will be limited/add time, as the main roads won't have changed.

You'll be in to at least 20 miles each way, add traffic, 75mins > I'd have thought.

Im sidcup and usually go out through eltham > lewisham > new cross > OKR > elephant > waterloo bridge..

I'm guessing you'll either want to snake through on the back roads along the a2 until you get to eltham kinda way, or go via bexley and then look at a similar route?

Just looked on a map : and its actually pretty straight over shooters hill : i occasionally ride that way home (and turn off just after welling) : not too bad a ride (but this is coming from someone who has been commuting for the last 10 years or so)

Similar, i used to live in Barnehurst. From Dartford, either:

Barnehurst, Bexleyheath, Welling, Shooters Hill, blackheath and then pick up Old Kent road (it's a straight line from bexleyheath basically). Evelyn Street is probably quicker for the city (less lights, stopping points)- but OKR seems better for Battersea.

Or

Cross A2 at Wilmington and go Bexley, Blackfen, Falconwood, kidbrooke side of Blackheath, then hook up with OKR.

I'd avoid Thamesmead / Woolwich route myself.

Other than fitness, time of day biggest factor. I'd always ride in early, but found coming home at rush hour added 10-15mins. Usual stuff 're keeping as much clothes, towels and shoes at work applies.

Thanks for the replies. Crayford, bexleyheath, welling, shooters hill, black Heath, and then through peckham and camberwell seems the most direct route. I have cycled it before but it was a few years ago and on a Sunday with no traffic. There's a few lung busting hills! Just wondered if there was an alternative route with less traffic. Did think of Thames cycle path but not sure how far you can get on it and what the distance would be.

I used to many years ago,
Dartford, down towards lower thames road, along to bronze ageway, first exit at lower belvedere. all the way through to Abbeywood, up towards the roundabout turn right. through to Plumstead, Woolwich, Greenwich, Deptford, surrey Quays, Can't remember much after that, but basically I finished at Waterloo bridge (strand end)
