Only issue I can see with some of the seat stay lights is that they have a significant upwards angle/trajectory. Is this not going to be irritating for drivers?
Pilots perhaps. Most lights I've seen are a bit hopeless off-axis; the ones on backpacks being particularly poor. If I really had to put one on the stays then I'd want to be able to correct the angle.

Yep, I'd definitely want it angled backwards more than upright!

It's true that most of the rear stay mounting lights point upwards rather than backwards. And many led lights have quite a narrow effective angle, which makes it worse.

That's why I went for a seat post light. The decent seat post mounts all allow you to adjust the angle so the light is pointing properly backwards.

brought one as a spare they are re chargeable and pretty bright

or they have just a back light which looks good

Cheap lights are like cheap binbags. The consequences and likelihood of failure are so great as to not be worth scrimping (IMHO)

Yup, Plus I always run 2 rear lights for that very reason, more so at night. Often run just 1 in the daytime. Exposure Blaze for the rear for me....cracking light!

I use an Exposure Tracer and a Smart Lunar R2 (battery) on the commuter. I find having a battery option quite handy, as when it gets cold, lithium performance can drastically reduced performance, and if caught short on a long ride, easy to swap new batteries in.

Don't waste your $ purchasing those lamps sold in UK for 10x the price..
Have had mine for over a year, it's awesome and durable!
Chinese also makes good products - that is If you actually pay $ for them not order some $1 stuff and expect miracles.
Thread resurrection to say I ordered two of the lights above from China. Total price was $7.63, the 0.63 being shipping (how the heck can you get even something small from China to the UK for 63 cents?!?). No customs or duty charged as they just appeared through our letter box one day.

Damn bright little things. The rubber strap should be fine on seat posts or stays (ie a vertical tube) but not great if you want to hang it from a rucksack as it will slip down.

The lights I received look identical to these from Planet X at £11.99 each.

Uhm because they ARE the same lights wink
Just re-branded, Wait till they put on some other ''fancy'' name on it and charge £22.99 each,
oh wait..they already do that!

All this light market is a humongous scam & people Specially in UK are Retards who fall for it, do a bit of research and order directly & spend 5-10x less for the same thing..
Again you HAVE To do your research first, otherwise you will order something that's even worse than poundlands stuff...

I usually wait for the Aldi / Lidl bike lights to become available. For the last couple of years, the Aldi rechargeables have been Lezyne power drives, but cost 15 quid, not 75 quid. The added bonus with not going straight through eBay et.al. is that the Aldi ones come with a 2 year warranty.

Try this from Lezyne...

I bought this one last year to use on the Dunwich Dynamo and it's brilliant. Very bright (if you want it to be) with a very good battery life too.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a seat stay light that will fit comfortably onto the irregularly shaped seat stays on a lady's Cannondate Synapse carbon ? These are neither circular or oval but slightly flattened with a twist along their length so its hard for anything to get a decent grip.

On top of that the bike is very small (48cm) so the angle of the tube is no more than 45 degrees and all the lights we've offered up so far end up pointing at the sky.

Currently we have a light on the seat tube which works well but it means we have to remove the saddle pack because the frame is so small there isn't room for both. Attaching the light to the saddle pack we already have (Topeak) doesn't work because it just drags on the wheel

Silly question perhaps, but why there rather than seat post?

Did you get as far as this bit smile

I agree that the seat post is better though.
Alternatively, can someone suggest a small saddle pack with a light mount that doesn't flop onto the wheel - the current Topeak one is far too sloppy. We use a frame bag in the winter but my wifes not keen on it

Try getting some Sugru

https://sugru.com/sport-outdoor/how-to-mount-a-bik...

The principle is the same, but you'll need a bit more to act as a wedge to get the right angle. It will mean you couldn't use the light for any other bike, mind.
