I had those exact same lights on my racer (Dawes I think), pair of D cells in each which weighed a tonne and probably put out less light than a phone screen manages these days hehe Amazing how the technology has advanced.
I've fettled those lights and they are running modern LEDs now.

Chopper, Dad resprayed it in a bright metallic blue and re-logo'd it.
I didn't realise till now what an excellent job he made of it looking back.

Me too.

I was also a Striker owner .... think I was about 7 so 1982 ish. Had to have the handlebars/stem welded back on twice after snapping them off on 'jumps'. Upgraded to a Burner, first of the oval tubing models.

Heavy steel scrap is £115 a ton, so that's about right.

I had to vote chopper though I never had one.
Hung off the back of quite a few choppers (I know... comedy window is wide open..) on that metal bit behind the seat in my yoof though, hence gets my vote.

Struggling to think of the name of a bike owned by a lad a few doors away when I had a Chopper. A little smaller than a Grifter and it had a frame with a single tube between the seat tube and head tube and a coaster brake that was capable of leaving massive skids marks on the pavement if you got a good head of steam up. Maybe a Raleigh Commando, did they come with coaster brakes?

Ha. I had a Record Sprint. It was lush. Properly linger up. My mate Phil had a pug., or peegot as I prounounced it, not being aware of how to say the name properly.
I remember buying a second hand Grifter at a scouts jumble sale. Pushed the thing home as it had two flat tyres. My god it was heavy.

But it was my dad’s Record Sprint I remember best. When I was big enough to ride it, he let me have it. I then proceeded to ruin it, although I dragged the poor thing out of his shed a couple of years ago and made amends.

Interesting story with my record sprint.

My mum ordered it off littlewoods catalogue. She ordered it well before September, and waited, and waited, and waited, then started chasing it, got robbed off lots. Eventually a couple of days before Christmas she played bloody hell on the phones, and wouldn’t take any excuses. The call was escalated and escalated. It went to the top.

Christmas Eve the bike turned up out of nowhere after we’d given up on it. I’m guessing some other kid didn’t get their RS for Christmas.

Silver Grifter. You could cruise round as though you were in "Chips" or do a spot of sideways action like the Saturday Speedway riders.
