A very quick look on Ebay shows a medium Defy 2 from 2014 hardly ridden £370 with 2 days of the auction left.
And another, similar spec for £112...
A defy 2 will be a aluminium frame with Sora or tiagra. And another, similar spec for £112...
Oh yes, as the OP does say, do ensure it's the right fit - really no point getting it if you are outside these ranges:
(NB: M/L is an actual size they make, it's not saying medium or large will fit)

Thanks all, going to look at it this weekend. It's a medium, and at 5'8 it should just about fit. I agree I think new tyres and inner tubes will be needed.
I'm not convinced. If it's barely been ridden then as long as it's been stored well they should be fine. I'm running original tyres on several 90s mtbs and my old allez is still on original with zero issues. Budget for them yes, but don't assume they def need doing. Zippee said:
Where are you getting over 300 from? The one that went for 175 is ally and not a patch on a carbon frame.
That will be where I got the over 300 quid from!? 🙄 Not everyone can go out and drop several grand on a bike. And the ally plus Tiagra version will do EXACTLY the same job as the fancy carbon jobby. And on top of that, if you ride an older clunkier bike, you will get fitter. Daveyraveygravey said:

The first point is like saying a Dacia Duster does exactly the same job as a 911 GT2 - okay fine it does in top line terms but it just doesn't.I'd also argue that whilst a bike can potentially be too good for the rider (particualry in terms of handling) - suggesting an old (I assume therefore you mean heavier) bike will make a person fitter just isn't true.
1) Enjoy what you ride and you'll be inclined to ride it more frequently and further.
2) A heavier bike won't make a rider fitter. The rider has an amount of effort - that effort gets expended on both bikes - the lighter one will be faster for a given effort. And even then, only up hill. (relating to effort rather than braking / turning etc when heading down again).

None of the bikes in this discussion are 911 GT2 level bikes. From the original post, I didn't think the seller was being generous with his pricing, and the OP may not get £150 for his bike either. So, to me, it didn't seem like a good deal in terms of money, and I question if the carbon version of the bike is "night and day" better than what the OP already has. If he could get the carbon version for £300 that would make it a better deal.Maybe I am just insensitive and my butt/hands/feet don't pick up on these differences in spec.

Agreed. In my mind you have to go and want to ride a bike (Unless you commute) and if a nicer bike helps with that, then crack on. I have a 2010 Ali frame Defy and I remember jumping on my mates 2013 Giant TCR Advanced. It was like night and day compared to my bike.2) A heavier bike won't make a rider fitter. Reading through some of this thread, it does highlight the challenges in buying a used bike and kinda why its not something I always recommend.
I'm still not 100% happy with my Fuji Transonic. Think I will keep it for another two and a bit years and do a custom build using a frame from the far east as a basis for carbon aero disc build. Struggling with my direct mount caliper brakes and discs look like the right way to go.
