I'm just getting back into mountainbiking after a few years of barely riding - so my only goal is a general get out riding more, have more fun with it and find more interesting new trails! hehe

2500 miles on the road bikes.
A couple of 100 milers.
More time on my MTB exploring local trails here in N Wales.
To requote myself:

Should be on 800 miles, currently on 379.

Most of Feb lost to a chest infection and other “life” things getting in the way.

Ditto my comment regarding using the MTB more.

Have signed up to two local rides of 50 miles (100 mile route sold out) and an 80 miler that goes up the Horse-shoe pass which should be good.

Planning on some evening rides now the nights are light.

100 days of Mountain Biking, tried last year and got to 92 days. To count as a day it must be riding for over an hour primarily off road. It’s harder than it sounds.

To get back on the bike and get fit. All was going well, I’d had a solid winter and the numbers looked good so I’d decided to start racing again after 3 years out of it. A fall on the stairs in January put paid to that as I ended up breaking my tib/fib and having it screwed/plated. I’ve been back on the turbo/zwift for 4 weeks now and getting going. Doing approx 4/5 hours per week on the thing. I’m clipped in on the left and the right leg is in a walking boot and sat on a flat pedal. Can manage an hour at around 200watts so I’m reasonably chuffed with that. I’m hoping to be back on the road in the next 4/6 weeks and hopefully get to Mallorca for a week in June. Possibly some CX racing in October. Who knows?

Goal update?! Mine change every few weeks...

Ridden 892 km so far this year, which is nothing. I'm managing 2 runs a week and 2 rides, there's a run in my village early in July I want to have a good go at, so the focus is on the running. The run is 6 miles cross country including a full climb of the Downs; I haven't done the event for over 10 years, and my pb back then was 48.48. Right now I would be happy to make it round without walking in about an hour, but with 3 months to train I want to get in the low 50's.

My fitness on the bike has taken a back seat, but it was still coming as a shock when I did ride how hard stuff I used to not think about was, so last Saturday I went out on a proper "fun" ride. I logged it on Stava, but it was more about taking in the sights and sounds and stopping for photos than segment bashing or trying to maintain an average speed. I really enjoyed it and it felt like I could have run later that day.

We are possibly staying in Lake Como this summer so I'm hoping to steer the Mrs into finding accomadation near the Madonna del Ghisallo and the Muro di Sormano, so that is going to mean ramping up the cycling fitness.

1700km into my 6500km target.

Now the clocks have changed I'll hopefully keep ahead of target.

270km Liege Bastogne Liege this month will help too.

My goals are similar to last year, concentrating on quality, over quantity of riding, especially as son #2 will be arriving soon.

1. Fit in a mid week training ride - hill repeats/intervals.
2. More sessions at the pumptrack - aiming for at least one a month.
3. Do an uplift day at a bike park.
4. Clock over 100 active hours on Strava (as only getting 99 last year was annoying).
5. Ride more with friends (and my little boy).
1. Not been doing too well. New baby has stopped that for a while now.
2. Did January and February. March sort of - I snuck in a few laps of the pump track at the Forest of Dean at the weekend. Again going to put that down to "new baby" - I was just glad that I could get out at all!
4. 18h 47m, should be able to recover that over the rest of the year!
5. I managed one ride with my best mate before he got knocked off his road bike and has been out of action since. I also did a few rides with my little boy, but he is too big for his rear mounted bike seat now - our last ride resulted in an off whilst manoeuvring that left me with concussion. I will be getting a Mac Ride this month, so we should be able to get out more together.

Ouch!!!

That sounds terribly similar to me last year. I slipped on the top step of the stairs at home, broke tib/fib, had ORIF same as you, and took from May to November to get back on a bike. Still in physio, with an appointment for a rehab class just this morning, and a review appointment next week.

Keep active, is all i can say, and push the physios into challenging you properly. Don't let them treat you like the average couch-potato. I lost a lot of muscle in my calf due to a longer period than average in casts and on crutches as the healing process for my fib took longer than estimated. I didn't have the benefit of a turbo trainer, so just made do with posting long walks on my crutches to Strava to monitor any improvements I was making.

It made for interesting curves on segment graphs - pace would crash dive, then as I got used to crutches it climbed, followed by a crash dive when I went to partial weight-bearing, a recovery curve, then plummet again when I went into the boot, repeat at every stage until i was walking without the crutches, since when the curve has been either upward or pretty much flat. I'm not planning on anymore setbacks if I can help it!

Beware the stairs! It’s hard to fathom just how big an impact a broken leg has on your life! I’m doing 80-100 miles on the turbo a week, Zwift is a pretty good motivator, I’m walking too, a couple of miles at a time. All on Strava and I’m starting to see progression. I had 6 weeks NWB in a cast so couldn’t do very much. I’m off the crutches now but stuck with the boot, hopefully I’ll be getting shut of that at next appointment (2 weeks). My first physio appointment is a week tomo. What might prevent me getting on the bike could be unclipping with my gammy leg. I don’t have the range of movement in the ankle just yet to swing my heel out. I’m a determined bugger though and I’ll be back at it soon enough. Good luck with your recovery, it’s not easy.

I didn't tackle the issue of unclipping for over a month after getting back on the bike. I knew I didn't have the strength or control needed for that. I bought some rather decent Boardman pedals in Halfords for the purpose, and stuck to either my MTB or my "gravel" Frankenbike to begin with, and spent as little time as possible on roads. Then in December I managed to clip into, and more importantly out of my road SPD SLs to complete the Festive500 (I'm a determined bugger too! wink ). Now I'm riding flat pedals on my MTB and SPDs on Frankenbike and averaging about 60 miles per week and a couple of miles of running.

I might even keep with the flat pedals on the MTB now. I'm told it's better for developing bike handling skills and that SPDs are "cheating" on a MTB??? As soon as this weekend's MTB/CX/Beach race is out of the way, I'll have to dig out my road bike, fix the front gear cable, and start getting some decent road miles in to prepare for RideLondon. I haven't ridden the road bike since New Year's Eve wobble
