Flying back the Blighty tomorrow and been checking the weather every 10 mins it seems.
Hoping the 27 and sun i see forecast now is the final bid.

The important bit is looking more promising than it was. If the weather lets go in the hills section, they tend to start diverting everybody, way before the usual ‘mandatory’ time.
Unfortunately, given a bereavement of a very close friends wife I’m going to have to spend the weekend supporting him so won’t make this, despite the training done to date.
I’m happy to go and register to get the number/tracking if anybody wants the place, start time was on P1 but was around 6am IIRC.
Not necessary but a little donation to St Christopher’s Hospice who made her comfortable or a Cancer/Sarcoma charity appreciated - 26 is far too young to go

Kieth, I'll take you up on the offer, if it's not too late? Not sure I'll do your name justice as I haven't ridden the road bike since last years Ride London but hopefully do a 4.5 hour ride.I’m happy to go and register to get the number/tracking if anybody wants the place, start time was on P1 but was around 6am IIRC.

I’ll go and collect all the bits tomorrow lunch, send me a PM with a number/location etc to let me know where you are and I’ll drop the bits to you/meet somewhere.

Sorry to hear about your friends wife’s that is no age at all to go. Currently in the Alps so will be missing PRL this year. C’est la vie!I’m happy to go and register to get the number/tracking if anybody wants the place, start time was on P1 but was around 6am IIRC.

Can anyone recommend a good spot for me to arrange to be picked up from by family after the event...... Will be travelling back to Essex and ideally don't want to add too many additional miles as I have parkinsons and fully expect to be feeling a bit rubbish after the event !
Thanks in advance x

Sorry forgot to mention they're spectating on the route so will be coming in from the West..... Picking up my broken self before back to Essex.
Thanks for input though x
Even so probably easiest for them to get to as they can stay south of the river until tower bridge so avoiding most of the problems. Thanks for input though x

Well, how unorganised is this st!?
You're obviously at the Olympic Park! Considering this is not the first running of this event. And the same people are responsible for 37 years of London Marathon. It's by far the worst part of the day, trying to get to the start itself.
Just returned from spectating in a couple places. Things you don't see when riding
Firstly the lead pack are SERIOUSLY shifting! Probably 150ish on the way out and half that on the way back in.
Saw some early mechanicals. Rear mech ripped off. A guy with a broken chain
Some less serious problems that will probably cause a DNF in the end. More than 1 Di2 bike in small front, small rear! One guy whose rear mech had lost spring tension so the chain was sagging
Several people have speaker on their bikes playing music!
There is some real bike porn out there. Conversely some bikes that look terrible.
More Bromptons and handcycles than I expected.
Some people need to consider their position on the bike!

I found myself up front this year. We were averaging 22-23 mph for the first 50 odd miles. That was ferocious for a Sportive ( even a flat one like this ). There were some seriously dead legs at the Mall. That was the quickest first 50 I’ve ever done, on this ride, by a margin.Considering this is not the first running of this event. Slight Correction, this 11 miles wasn’t unusual today, and was a shade over 24 mph at 260 Watts. Which given it’s just a Sportive, is interesting.

Yep, that first section through London is very quick. That segment for me was 26:34 today. I bailed out of a fast moving group just as we got to Richmond Park after three crashes in fairly quick succession. Didn't want to be next.Slight Correction, this 11 miles wasn’t unusual today, and was a shade over 24 mph at 260 Watts. Which given it’s just a Sportive, is interesting.

One of them looked very bad indeed. I was a bit nervous after that.My rear mech snapped in the middle, 9 miles from the finish on Wimbledon hill, gutted doesn’t cover it. 4K miles I’ve ridden on it and it’s not missed a beat. Arrghhhhh
I’d averaged 30.5kph to that point.
The organisation at the start was a shower of st. I had a starting colour that was listed nowhere and no Marshall’s had a clue. Shambles, just picked a slot and stood there.
But... the feeling zooming along, overtaking 100’s of people, seeing the hardcore people flying past me in pelatons and the crowds cheering along the route, awesome and already wondering what to do for next year.
