Hey chaps. Sorry to have missed the PH pre event chat on here.

The start wasn't too bad but I was in the Orange B wave right near the front.

Managed a good pull though, and got in a nice group.

The start was pretty punchy, I did over 40km in the first hour.

Early start meant it was cooler too, so didn't need to stop.

Will definitely be back next year.

I think the difference in opinion on today’s ride was people start times, earlier ones had a good ride later ones got caught by a few nasty accidents and then a lost crate of medals meaning no medals for c6,000 people at the end.

Perhaps as we’d been before we knew the score on signage and easily found where we were to go without any problems.

I had a good day, blue c start and pretty much had “hammer time” for the whole 100miles.

Got PBs on all the significant climbs and a pb for the ride as a whole, only downer for me was I was 2m 4s slower than I was hoping ☹️.

Blue C started 2 mins after my group. We probably rode together.

First time I've done it. Drove to Angel, cycled 10km along the canal to the start. 5km back from the finish and free parking on Liverpool Road all day. Worked out well.

Seemed like a fast day out there. Temps were nicer, didn't notice any real wind?

I've checked several people against previous RL100s and they all PBd by a decent margin

56YO Male Previous 7h37 today 5h57 (and he walked Leith Hill!)
37YO Male Previous 6.01 today 5h23
34YO Female Previous 5h32 Today 4h45

Don't feel so bad about my only time last year being so uncharacteristically slow. (It was horrible conditions)

I've HAD to enter the ballot for next year so I can set a decent benchmark. biggrin It'll probably be st weather and snow as well! mad

Lad in my club did it in 3h50 at 25 mph average. He’s a strong rider but good conditions and a massive bunch has clearly helped.

I know exactly how you feel. Last year was my first proper 100 and so to have that rain after 75 days of sunshine was gutting. Did the ToC this year. My folks live in Cambridge and noted it was unusually windy that day - about 23mph on the fens!

Didn’t get into PRL100 this year and weather looked perfect.

Riding solo from Essex to North Wales in 2 weeks. Weather forecast is now available and looks ok but not great. Feeling a bit jinxed!

3.50 is a seriously impressive time. Theres only so much that can be put down to a still day/cool temps. Viviani did 3.46 on the Pro course! There weren't many bunches moving at 40+ kph all day, especially on the heavy Surrey bits. That's got to be in the top 100 times for yesterday?

Good effort!

I was one of the first riders home in just under 3.53 - started a bit back in first wave and was 5th over line - I don’t think anyone did 3.50 based on that.

As usual, awful riding displayed by many, and if you could surf a pack it was pretty easy to go quick. I got binned on leith but got back to the front. I think the main lot split a lot at box as by the end the front group was probably about 25 people.

I would agree, I was Black B, which was 7am roll-out. Looking at some of the comments on Twitter there were lots of delays later on. We caught up with a lot of the 46mile entrants towards the end of the ride but managed to get around most of them without issue.

Good effort! That's a really decent ride. I bet you're a bit sore today.

Leith was the slowest bit for me too. I dropped a group on the wide roads on the run in, then slogged up it on my own, they caught me at the top, then I dropped them again for the rollers. I sat up and sat in for the last few km to the bottom of Box, then had a long solo session off the top. Got caught by a really good group, which pulled all the way to Wimbledon. The hill tore it apart, and then there were only about 3 of us working the front from there to the end.
There was one bloke in a London Dynamo Jersey that was owning the front. I gave him a few breaks but he was a beast!

I did witness a couple of people ‘shortcuting’ Leith, by going up Tanhurst Lane, and I know a few others that didn’t follow the route exactly, but knew where the timing bars were.

Yeah I know a few people who were at the slower end. Moving time was 6 hours something but elapsed time was over 8 hours because of all the delays. Having to walk for ages in cleats, one of the hills was closed. Sounds a bit st to be fair. 70 notes for that and they lost your medal at the end of it.

First time I've done it - the standard of riding in the front group was better than I expected, but my expectations were that I'd be taken out somewhere in the first 10 miles so not a high bar to beat laugh

Looking at the flybys the front pack split properly on Leith and then again on Box. Got really strung out on Leith hill, and I didn't get back to the front group until we got to Dorking. After that effort I didn't really have much to give up box and the group had gone again by the first hairpin. Looks like the very front group got split again just before the cafe.

Ended up riding all the way back into London as a 3 (not ideal!) which was picking people up and dropping them, only to get caught by the bigger group that didn't make it back after Leith just after we got to Kingston. Might as well have sat up and waited for them! They were a bunch of lazy sts (or maybe they were just all gassed) so that was quite annoying laugh

So I think the front three groups were 3:53, 3:57: 4:01 (mine - about 20-25 riders at a guess ?)

I did the 46 this time round. Having done the 100 before, I can say I enjoyed the 46 much more! It's a fast ride, I did the whole thing pretty much flat out as I joined in with other groups of riders going round making my average pace much higher than usual. One of the best parts of the route is going through London without traffic and blasting through all the tunnels and over the bridges. Plus it's basically flat biggrin

I'd swapped to my MTB pedals touring shoes in case of any congestion/walking, but there was none of that for us. I remember doing the 100 in 2016 and having to walk quite a few hills because of traffic, Leith even got closed due and we ended up being chased by the sweepers meaning we had to do nearly half of it flat out. I bonked at Wimbledon making the last few miles really tough.

I've entered the ballot for the 100 again next year and will enter for the 46 when it opens, here's to hoping I get a place on the 46 again though!

3:50 ish based on his Strava time. He finished with front group but got dropped in the last couple of miles I think

I was loving the 46, really quick, most riders well behaved, I spent most of it on the far right of the road overtaking, with a few groups overtaking me (I was on my own). I was gutted when my derailleur split in two on Wimbledon hill. Can't wait for next year.

We must have ridden in the same group, post Leith. Had the exact same as you, lost the bunch on Leith but got back on in Dorking, then just tapped up Box with a few others at my own pace. Then in a four or five up until Kingston when a bigger group swept us up. Finished 4.01 or so too.
