Built this up as a bit of an experiment/push back against ridiculously overpriced carbon ‘gravel’ (🙄) bikes etc. The frame was £99 retail. As were the forks. Nice wheels, various finishing bits and bobs. Around £700 all in. 42/16 gearing. About as simple as it gets. I ride it on/off road, It is an absolute hoot!.

Definitely some great looking machines on here recently smile

I had a slight off a few years back and scraped my forks on the nds. Had a bit of time this week so had a go at some custom paint.

As they were originally….

Primed and prepped….

Three way colour fade basecoat with a mini jet spraygun….

Some detail masking and then the final effect basecoat….

Clearcoated and refitted on the bike….

Got some Supacaz StarFade Kush tape coming to give it a bit more matching colour up front smile
Skills right there, looks very cool.

£1200 for paint!
Wasn't Addicted was it?
No, not them…the quote was for the frame forks, bars, stem & seat post. Not that much more to get a new frame & keep my SuperSix original & worth a few bob.
That's a crazy quote! For comparison, the full ruby stone /blue paint job on my latest bike was 295 quid. Granted labor is cheaper in Asia but still....

Thanks all, it’s the day job to some extent so I’ve had a bit of practice smile

Looks brilliant. Very envious of your skills.

I've become a bit of a convert to gravel life now. Much more fun than road riding and less time spent around terrible driving.

Never ridden one, don't know how to ride one. Will be terrible value being ridden a handful of times a year.

But it looks cool.

Will sit alongside a 180mm Specialized Endudo, the demo is basically there as a park stter to keep the Enduro's wear and tear down.

Thanks, have plenty of time on the enduro (rxf38 amd ttx m.2 coil). The DH38s I can't comment on as I've only done a carpark test but they feel more solid and more supportive than the Ohlins rxf 38. Maybe the tune on them. Hopefully taking it to Wales in a couple weeks.

The ohlins forks seem to have a lot of mid support compared to Fox 38s, they sit higher in the travel than the Foxes do which alters all the geometry a bit so takes some getting used to if you switch between Fox and Ohlins. Other than that hard to distinguish anything major. The Fox 38s have a more traction like feel to them and flutter over low speed chatter compared to the Ohlins which can feel a bit less traction-ey. The ramp up air chamber is very convenient compared to tokens.

Given the cost of the Ohlins and the wear that forks can get riding parks I am not sure I would get them over Fox or Rockshox if money was a concern, I don't know if anyone in the UK can do stanchion replacement for Ohlins where someone like RSFsus would be able to replace Fox items. I would have preferred my demo with a cheaper build, Sram GX and some cheaper Fox or RS forks, but still using the newer and better dampers rather than the older grip or select stuff. I really wanted a demo and waited about 6 months+ for this to crop up so ohlins it was.

Thanks for that. I hope you get on well with it at a bike park: looks like it's going to be rapid.

I've only ever used triple crowns on a hire bike at Whistler...kept hitting the stops, horrible biggrin

They're hilarious fun, you think your enduro bike is capable but swing a leg over a proper downhill bike and it's another level. Proper planted, confidence inspiring sleds that you can't help getting a bit loose and being a hooligan on. I'd love another one in my life but I just wouldn't get the use out of it these days, no-one I know rides them anymore like we used to...

Can see your running clips, I ride clipped too but I think if I were back on a DH bike I'd want to be on flats and FiveTen's / Etnies... Depending on what you're riding you might find the same so maybe something to keep in mind or maybe just try at some point.

Would also love one but couldn't justify the outlay in return for the handful of days it would get used. One disadvantage of living in the deep south I suppose is being nowhere near any of the decent bike parks.

Yes true. I used to go to BPW several times a year but it's a bit of a trek, no pun intended. Although I mostly rode it on hardtails anyway, which kind of defeated the object.
