The "Show off your bike" thread! (Vol 2)
Discussion
Here's an experiment from me. For years I've bought second hand, reasonably high endbikes, or bike bits, and then assembled and maintained them myself.
However, after realising at one point I had 4 bikes, none of which were working properly I decided to put my hand in my pocket and actually buy new.
I'm not in a position to spend huge amounts so ended up with an Orange Clockwork 27.5 - the bottom of the range billy-basics one.
Unsurprisingly it feels cheap! Added a dropper post which has made all the difference but feels like they've got the gearing wrong with a 32 front ring and 11-51 rear (man, that 1st gear is huge!) Also feel like the saddle is cheap rubbish and the grips will be swapped out too.
However, it all works! The shifting is pretty bloomin' good considering it's basic Deore, it came on High Rolller II tyres which I really like and as an overall package in muddy conditions it's a good giggle.
Kinda wish I'd paid another £500 to move up the spec ladder and it's not going to replace my carbon full sus but overall does pretty much what it says on the tin. I know other brands offer better value for money at this price point but I love Orange (I think this is my 4th and I still have my 1995 P7) and wanted to stick with something I was vaguely passionate about.

Thought I would give road cycling a whirl, picked up this rather bruised/well used 2011 Raleigh Team Sprint for my training rig when I can't get to the trails as easily during the week.
Can't argue for £50!!
It ain't no carbon dream machine and bike brand snobs may sneer (Raleigh must have some gravitas) but, looks presentable and goes ok, just needs some new tyres.

Had this Haibike AllMtn 4 for a week now. What an insane piece of kit this thing is. I've come from a budget Calibre Two³ to this. I feel like I've gone from a Micra to a Bentley GT.
It never ceases to amaze me how good the performance is. So balanced and poised it really has made me feel like a 100x better rider. It's not even the motor or assistance that's the most impressive thing, it's the refinement at anything you throw at it.
A real pleasure to own.
Photo of it on collection, too dirty the rest of the time ??.

Didn't have time to go for a ride this weekend, instead spent it sorting out the n+1 bike. £80 off gumtree, at last now the brakes work and the saddle doesn't sag......Its about as quick as my daughters bike, so quite useful in a way, saves me from having to jog after her!

Stabilisers... You'll be lynched! [Img]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51012512047_5b03b9684c_c_d.jpg[/thumb]
Joking apart, unless she has balance problems, best thing you can do for kids is balance bike instead of stabilisers. Pull the cranks and bb off and let her paddle it around so she learns bike balance.

Absolutely this. Both my boys were riding with pedals at the age of 3, after graduating from balance bikes. In both cases, it only took them a couple of push offs to get them moving and get their feet up, and they were off. After a couple of times pushing them off, they even worked out the starting off themselves.
To be fair, I learned with stabilisers, so it's not the end of the world though.

That was (something like) 15 years ago... Doesn't time fly.
Also, many of the 8+'s didn't balance very well either...
Certainly does... Although my knees and back do like to remind me from time to time. Also, many of the 8+'s didn't balance very well either...
Hated 8s...none of the ones I rowed in ever sat well. 4s were the sweet spot for me.
I rarely ride on the road any more so took advantage of the current eBay gravel/adventure bike fever and flogged my Charge Grater for decent money. It's been replaced with a Genesis Tarn 10 to which I've added suspension and an 11 spd drivetrain. So much more comfortable than the Grater on bridleways, in the woods etc.
