Why would you give it to a racing cyclist? If the category was racing cyclist then yes, they are all good candidates. But, I went for Andy van Bergen because Everesting is something that has captured people's imaginations, made them do things they would laugh out of court normally. I don't think any racing cyclist has had that much impact on anyone.
lol Everesting generally has been done by people that cycle already, I would say. It's also largely pointless, i.e. they'll do it then probably need two weeks off, amounting in likely less cycling than if they hadn't bothered.okgo said:

I know trying to counter anything OKGO says is pointless, but here goes. The pros are paid to ride bikes, so why single them out as potential cyclist of the decade?Daveyraveygravey said:

Because that's clearly what he was talking about? Surely he listing 10 pro cyclists lays out what he means by cyclist of the decade?
10 most influential people in cycling of the last decade, and you may have a point...
I think more people will have taken up cycling, entered sportives and maybe even competed as a result of Wiggo et al compared to the bloke who thought up “everesting” but I appreciate that for some he was influential.

His recent video stuff is fantastic- even my non-cyclist wife loves Random Tandem. And his Whistler trip vid made the room very dusty....If you want the real cyclist of the decade it’s Martin Ashton... you already known the “back” story...
Can I nominate Jolanda Neff for the list. Long palmares across MTB, road and cross. But mainly for being Goldilocks in the surreal Trek Supercaliber advert that came out in the summer
