Bit of a thread bump….
I accidentally bought this a few weeks back…. Nostalgia got the better of me
All original, 1 owner from new. Not perfect but I didn’t expect that.
I’ve since changed the stem as the bar clamp wasn’t square to the axis of the stem, meaning the left bar end was slightly behind the right.
I’ve also sourced some period Wellgo pedals that are direct copies of the Shimano LXs of the time.
As an ex-Lotus Engineering employee is has some sentimental value, hence the purchase… I did have the chance in 1994 to buy one new, but a Orange Clockwork got the better of me (I posed that earlier in the thread )
Love that. Are they the original shocks as my (admittedly vague) memory of them was with gold forks of some kind?I accidentally bought this a few weeks back…. Nostalgia got the better of me

Surprisingly they still work as intended, as do the adjusters on the top of each fork leg.
Pretty crap by modern standards….
The original forks are silver to match the rear triangle.
I have those too, if I ever want to return the bike to stock specification.

Pre -1997 for RetroBike
My retro dh collection would respectfully disagree…1998 San Andreas, 1998 Giant ATX DH and 1997 Scott FX-DH, 1998 Scott FX DH and 1999 Santa Cruz Super 8.1 Personally , I think 1999 is the cut off. The last really experimental years and the years before tech like disc brakes started to become ubiquitous.
I recently managed to finally lay my hands on this hulk (sadly minus the second shock and linkage)
My latest acquisition, and possibly the last one I’ll add given its going to be difficult to top as a unicorn. I bought this Muddy Fox Intereactive from its original owner. He’s updated a few parts, which I’ll probably look to reverse in due course. I’d like to put flat narrow bars on and if I can get hold of some Spinergy Rev-x Rox I think they’d suit it really well.
It currently has the weird (flawed) shimano brake levers that also actuated the gears. Same principle as a road bike but Shimano received a load of feedback from pros saying that they use the brake levers as part of the bike balance /control, so having them shift gear under vertical pressure is a massive pain. They didn’t last long.
It has taken me several years to find one, and then several months to negotiate. I definitely overpaid but how does one value something this rare and weird anyway?
I’m hoping that next year I can make it back to the UK and take this and a couple of others (like my time warp Scott Endorphin) to the Malvern Classics.
