1990 MUDDY FOX COURIER COMP

Owned one first time aged 13, first MTB. Coming from a Raleigh Burner!
Been looking for another one for a couple of years now. This one has really nice paint.
Will now (eventually) get a few service parts, maybe a splash of colour here & there!
I’ve managed to hoard 6 MF’s in the last 2 years, after this one I might give it a rest ??

Did/do any of you champs know anything about the old Trek VRX series? The black 400 was my dream bike when I was younger and now the prices of them are so low that getting one just for the sake of it actually seems feasible. I think if I did I’d get a 300 as it’s a better all-rounder I could use but would be interested to hear if they’ve held up over time?
I've got a VRX500 (the orange one) that I bought new in 99, original pretty much everything inc seat/grips/tyres! Have to do a full disc brake caliper overhaul at some point on it & it should be good to go smile
There’s one of these on eBay right now, it looks amazing!

Some awesome E-stay bikes on here. biggrin Raced one at 24/12 last year, bloody brutal.

Thought id dump some of the absolute toss i've owned over the years. Do believe it is a staple to own both 90s cars and bikes even if a lot of them are as old as me or older!

Firstly my mattching mango Cannondales.
M and F300! The M300 was a bit of an obsession, around 9kg when i finally got rid of it (There were a few more changes after this photo). The F300 was then just something i wanted as i got the frame cheap.

The F300...

Then we have the current retro bike, something obscure a Diamondback DBR which in its first iteration, which was a bit of shambles (check out that chain tension), was thrown together for last years malverns classics. Turns out carbon frames and carbon rear wheels makes for a shocking ride.

And then since that i put a more sensible rear wheel onto it.

And now its got some tan walls but alas, no photos.

And finally that brings me around to the most recent disaster i've built. However this is for the misses, not me. So apparently the mud guards HAVE to stay. Yuck.

Some more appropriate grips and pedals will be fitted when i can be bothered.

Mine is now rebuilt. It’s never as easy as planned (in my mind just some new cables a spray o& gt85)

The reality was new elastomers & wiper seals, new sealed bearings all round for the mavic Dakar hubs, new sealed bearings for the Klein pressfit bb. New headset upper bearings, lowers & crown race were shagged so used a cane creek cartridge lower set up.
XTR v brakes stripped & rebuilt - who knew each arm has two sets of tiny bearing races?
Sachs 12- 28 freewheel stripped & rebuilt.

And some new cables & a spray of gt85.

I think I scared a local cyclist when I asked if I could take a picture of his bike. It bought back memories from about 1991 cycling with my mate who owned almost the same bike.....

Gratuitous photo, taken with permission biggrin

It’s a 91 Klein pinnacle. I’ve had it from new, along with the forks, wheels, saddle etc.

I’ve no idea why or how I’ve posted it twice!

Yep, Seinfeld green! Lol.
The bars were a pig to fit to the stem!

Finally home to meet a couple of mine;

First up - the first bike I ever truly wanted. I have the P2 forks to go with it and at some point I’ll build it up. Weirdly, of all of the retro stuff, it’s the one I want to ride the most. 1997 Kong Cindercone with probably my favourite ever livery.

Then it’s Lads Lads for this pair of overcomplicated heavyweights; 1998 Scott FX-DH and 2000 Scott Octane DH

And finally - this weirdo. 1996 Muddy Fox Intereactive that I chucked a set of Spinergy on for full wildness!

Just picked up a very battered 1997 Klein Attitude Race. I plan to change saddle, grips, tyres, cables and blocks and also renovate the groupset.

Notable bits:

Deore XT full groupset inc hubs, pedals
Bontrager Mustang rims
Bontrager race bars, stem
Tange-Seiki headset
Thompson post
Rock Shox Judy XC fork (which unbelievably works)

As it's a post-Trek, I don't want to pay for a frame respray. I have two options as it's extensively chipped with various minor dents: careful use of white frame protectors i.e. AMS Maori, or leave it as it is for a sort of rat look. What do you think?

PS. All the tat bolted to it in the pic has been already thrown in the bin.

Almost finished my Klein build. Added AM frame decals (Maouri) as the frame was badly chipped and given it's a '97, rather than pre-Trek, I didn't want to go all out. Flogged the expensive Thomson post and pedals to subsidize the build. Also 'rawed' the forks, stem, and bars to give it a touch of US WWII warplane wink

Perhaps some riser bars would give it more of a beachy look. More pics to follow when it's fully rideable.

P.S, Routing the brake cables through the frame is every bit is scary as the legend suggests!
