I’ve messed up and bought some forks which don’t fit my frame (steerer been cut too short).

The current headset looks to be quite bulky, it’s a Cane Creek Angleset. Hoping I can just buy a new headset with a smaller stack?

The current headset is a tapered 44/56. Would something like the below work? It’s tapered, it’s 44/56 and looks much lower stacked? I could do with about 10mm additional.

Yeah potentially, it's one of those times to wheel your bike into the LBS for a chat (obvs if they let you in at the moment and they're not booked solid for the next year and a bit). If may be able to have an Integrated headset fitted to gain you a bit of steer tube.

Things to consider. Assuming you bought the angleset to adjust the head angle and I've never known anyone do so to make their bike steeper you'll not only lose that extra head angle, you'll also lose a tiny bit more be reducing the height of the head by a few mm. It won't make a huge difference, but combined it will probably be noticeable.

I bought some short forks as well, they were too cheap to pass on. I extended the steerer tube with an off cut of another pair of forks, a bit of tube from the end of an old handlebar, and some structural grade epoxy.

Four years later, the bike has done countless races, and loads of trail centre trips, with no sign of trouble.

Just coming back to this, the lower headset did make enough space for me. Decided to take the risk and order the one from CRC and swapped them over at home.

Never ridden with the Angleset, it came on the frame and only building it up now. I'm used to slightly older geometry (and 26" wheels, whereas this is 29") so will be interesting to compare how it rides to my current bike.
