Apparently a whole 1,000 people were mildly upset by Yeti using the term "Yeti Tribe" in reference to their customers organised events and marketing materials, so Yeti have agreed to stop using the term.
https://bikepacking.com/news/yeti-cycles-drops-the...

Firstly, isn't everyone in the world, ultimately, descended from tribes - regardless of your current skin colour or geographical location?

Secondly, how many of those 1,000 wkers are actually previous or potential customers of Yeti bikes? Or has Yeti just buckled to the extended facebook friends list of one pillock that thought they'd get some virtue-likes by starting the campaign?

Shame on you, Yeti, for not taking a stand.

Sounds to me like they just used this as an excuse to rebrand.

A poor excuse mind you.

Ah well, I'll add Yeti to the list of bike brands to avoid for one reason or another. To be fair they already were on the list due to being excessively expensive in Europe smile

Tribe? Is it anti-American?

Sure a tribe is a group of people e.g. join our tribe.

The PC'ness happening in the world today is becoming idiotic.

Aren't we all here members of the great Cycling Tribe? In my book the modern meaning of 'tribe' is simply a collection of folk with a common interest/characteristics. Just as Audaxers are members of the weirdy beardy tribe.

I'm really puzzled by this trend for 3rd parties to become offended on behalf of other people, who may or not themselves be offended. Has anyone asked any Yetis (who I thought lived somewhere in the remote Himalayas, though my geography is poor) what they make of all this?

We have had all this in my company in recent weeks.

Grandfathered, Master/Slave, Blacklist/Whitelist, Tribe ..

All terribly racist, sexist, ageist so all out and never to be mentioned again.

TBH I always though the concept of the Yeti Tribe was a bit wky - the bikes are great, but if you like mtb then the bike you ride shouldn't matter. And riding a Yeti doesn't make you a great rider, ask me how I know...biggrin

I’m in the camp that thinks it’s a bit daft.

The concept was a bit naff in the first place, but I fail to see it being offensive.

I guess the pressure will be on the Exeter Chiefs to rebrand big time now (there’s been a few complaints already).
