Because the mudguard fixing is behind the fork crown not in front, I needed to kink the stays to correct the angle the stays meet the mudguard - you will see what I mean when you fit yours.

Plus I think they look cool!
Hi im wondering, instead of bending them could your stays length have been adjusted by hacksawing them ?

Hi all, mudguard info for the Synapse seems to be in pretty short supply but hoping someone can advise!

I've got a 2020 Synapse Disc (which I believe is the unchanged model from 2018). It's running 30mm tyres which are pretty true to size, so looking at the SKS Bluemels 45mm. Can anyone confirm if there'll be enough clearance to fit these?

I doubt I'll get away with SKS 35mm, and would have considered the 42mm but would prefer the matt version over shiny.

@leyorkie I think you mentioned you managed to fit 45mm with no issues, is that correct and which ones did you get?

Thanks in advance.

I've either got 42mm or 45mm ones.

28mm road tyres fit under them easily. 35 mm gravel tyres would have just about squeezed under but the rivets disintegrated when I was adjusting the stays. To be fair they are 4-5 years old and would have been fine if I hadn't started pulling on them.

So I think 30mm should be fine.

This is on an 2015 GT Grade which, although a gravel bike, doesn't have huge tyre clearances.

I got Bluemels SKS Reflective like theses from Wiggle but I bought in France and they do measure 45mm
Don’t know why these say 35mm

Need a bridge for fitting the rear

Not the best photos but I had to flex the front stays as they have to go through the bracket at roughly 90 degrees suppose I could have opened up the slots but they work ok

Thanks guys, good to know and I'll probably take the plunge on the Bluemels 45.

I'd also been considering the SKS Raceblade Pro XL clip ons purely for the flexibility of being able to easily take them off on a dry day or during the summer, and also think they look pretty smart. Other than the reduced coverage, and the fact the Synapse already has mounting points is there any reason NOT to buy these, e.g difficulty mounting to the asymmetrical fork design of the Synapse?

I’ve got raceblades on my SuperSix where there’s no clearance for guards. Not bad protection but the front mech seat post gets a lot of crud thrown up. There OK but not as good as full guards.

Raceblades get frustrating if you're riding regularly through the winter - and once you've got a set of full guards fitted and adjusted they go on and off quicker and with a lot less faffing about than Raceblades in any case, at least in my experience.

If you ride in a group then it's also very hard to make a rear guard that's long enough to be sociable out of a Raceblade.

I’ve been bitten by using sks chromoplastic mudguards on my carbon synapses the plastic vibrating has worn my seat stays virtually through so if your running guards on this model check it NOW. Cannondale and the dealers would lead you to believe it doesn’t happen but I know two frames this has happened to. So check and contact dealers and cannondale to make them aware of the issue
