You can do scenic rides. But no classes.

Daft question?
The way we do it is we have 2 normal spin bikes that were about £400 each, in front of a 40" Panasonic plasma telly that we got from Gumtree for £35, that plugs into a Roku Streambar box that has integrated speakers that was about £100. Then we pay Peloton £12.99 a month for their live app. It doesn't have 2-way communication back to the Peloton so the instructors can't see you and you cxan't see your rank in the class, but it's good enough for a £2000+ saving and the monthly saving.
Also we tend to watch pre-recorded classes due to not being tied down to times & the desire to pick instructor, music etc, not the live ones anyway so the live feedback is irrelevant

As others have said you can still use the bike but just none of the classes, its like having a very expensive smart phone but no data plan, it might as well be useless.

I was looking at secondhand ones on Gumtree, looks like you could get one for about £750? The price of a good exercise bike, with the option to upgrade to the classes if you wanted?

Does the screen operate like an ordinary tablet?

The bike it self is very good. 6 months of daily usage and it still feels new. The 'feel' of climbing out of the saddle is nicer than actually climbing on my hybrid eBike.

The screen is essentially an android tablet, and people have side loaded Netflix etc to run on it.

Just ordered one (Bike+). Big investment, but I need to do more exercise. I shall report back with my findings, but delivery isn’t for three weeks yet anyway.

Don't be afraid to try the none bike stuff etiher, I've recently started doing 10 minute arm sessions before each ride. I had dismissed them as 'girly' but after seeing the results my wife was getting thought I try it. They are actually really effictive despite been only 10 minute sessions, the presenter may do it with a smile but the size of their arms don't lie!!

Tunde is especially passive aggressive.

And the bike it self, so much better than 'real world' bikes especially in this weather. I took the scenic commute to work on the pedal bike in the real world yesterday.....lovely sun, not that cold when wrapped up, humm maybe I slow down more for this corner as it looks slippery.....too late, I can confirm tarmac tastes/feels as unpleasant in 2022 as it did in 2021.

16mph down to zero in a split second, not a good way to start your work day!!!

The Peloton bike in comparison is just simply a safer, nicer, more enjoyable way of keeping the flab away

Oh do try and get your other half into it, there are other benefits to exercise/toning off the bike.......

Really considering one of these (wife keen also). Seems like the 'easiest' solution.

Bike+ a lot more expensive than the regular version. Worth the extra outlay?

I've also read a combo of a WattBike + Zwift app is worth a look?

Watt bike + Zwift is totally different to Peloton. Both do the same thing, distract the user from the bordem of indoor cycling but uses totally different approaches. On the face of it the Peloton sessions all seem more show and smile than hard work, but if you follow the instructions the numbers tell quite a different story, its simply when you are doing the session you don't realise the structure.

The difference between Bike+ and Bike is mainly speakers, tilting screen, and self calibrating power readings. I was happy to pay the extra for a Bike+ but my wife wasn't, after 9 months of solid usage I have to say the Bike is a decent bit of kit. Its been used almost daily, and actually 'rides' better than my hybrid eBike in the real world.

The other thing selling point of Peloton is the none bike stuff, my wife does alot of that than me, but I've recently started doing the arms sessions. Again on the face of it doesn't seem all the serious, but 4 weeks in am seeing good results bare-in-mind the last time I was doing weights at the gym was about 7 years ago!

Trainerroad possibly closer to peloton than Zwift. Though you can of course choose from many many training sessions on Zwift or make your own.

We have both bikes... a + in the UK and the original bike out here in Spain (we use both bikes on a single subscription)... The + isn't worth the extra money... the speakers are much better, but that's about it... you can get a bracket to rotate the screen on the original bike if that's important.

According to my profile data, we got our original bike 74 weeks ago. I've done 435 classes (368 cycling) and my wife has done 543 classes (516 cycling). Most of my classes are powerzone, though I also do HIIT classes and swam a km a couple of times a week up to end of October, when the pool here got a bit cold even with a wet suit.

My fitness has improved massively... My 1st FTP August 2020 (day 2) was 198 watts (2.3w/kg). 8 months later, April 2021, I was up to 279 watts (3.2w/kg)... which is reasonable for a 54yo, who smoked a pack a day for nearly 40 years, drank a bottle of wine a night for over 20 years, and sat at a desk for work.

My wife (who doesn't drink or smoke, but who'd done no exercise for years) has become a machine - does core every morning (though doesn't use the classes for that anymore), rides 5 times a week, FTP's at >4w/kg... she's in the best shape of her life.

Sounds like Peleton is putting the price of its machines up by charging $250 to deliver and install the bike and $350 for the treadmill. Those costs are currently part of the standard price.

Was based on assumption that covid would change habits permanently, but it won't. Wfh is ending, lockdowns ending, people going back to gyms, better weather around the corner and so on.

Wonder if will go private again or stay public.

2 million subscribers paying $40/month, that's $80 million revenue per month to pay for online class delivery/production. Not sure what that isn't sustainable as a business?

It does look like they went mad with production expansion over lock down and now trying to stop/reduce over production.

The core product is fantastic, we love it as a family its so much more effective as an exercise tool than gym memberships, and it appears so does plenty of other users.

If Peloton lowers the price of the Tread to anything close to £1500 we would get one to accompany the bike.

because when your spending horrendous amounts on growth marketing there is no profit in sight.

zwift has 3m users and is worth about a billion, Peloton at one point was worth 47bn.

i suspect it will go c11, the machines will get bricked and someone will buy the platform out of the ashes. The basis idea is good, but it’s a classic covid play and isn’t worth the 7bn it’s at today

There are rather a lot of people in the cycling world. And almost all of them that I know are on Zwift.
