For anyone who hasn’t done the ‘Body weight’ classes, I really would suggest them. They are can be as hard as any of the bike work outs if you really try to follow the instructors, but also they offer modified moves the whole family can do. The fact you can download on the app means you literally do them anywhere with space, and all you need is a mat/towel on the floor, so no excuses not to have a blue dot every week even when travelling on holiday!!

I’m actually really forwards to looking like a nutter at 6am doing Tunde’s mad moves with a view of the Italian lakes in the summersmile.

If my output is around the same, if I was getting fitter, shouldn't my strive score be getting lower? or am I overthinking it, different days, different classes etc and just keep going with it all?
From what I can tell the Strive score is very similar to what Strava uses to estimate 'training load', the difference is Strava puts it into a cumulative graph with fancy words that I don’t understand properly.

But since Strava is another £/month cost and am cheap I haven’t renewed my Strava subscription, I’ve found my resting HR tracks my fitness pretty closely. The spike up in Sep last year was when I injured my self and was unable to any bike stuff for about 6 weeks, the drop in Jan-Feb this year was when I was doing the last PZ program. I’m still a bit off my ‘peak’ cardio fitness compared to last year.

I wouldn’t bother comparing Strive scores across different Peloton rides, as even with the same average outputs, depending on the setup of the class I can feel either totally dead or fine.

These are two 60 minute PZ rides I did recently, average output and Hr is very similar as these were zone targeted rides, but I honestly felt sick at the end of Olivia’s ride where as I could have done another 60 minutes of Denis’s ride with no issues.

So essentially don’t worry about it and just enjoy the ride (literallysmile).

Thanks all. I just don't really understand how the figures are used.

I've actually started turning some of the screens off while riding. For the moment I think i'll just keep getting on the bike and work out to how i'm feeling on the day.

Just get the hours in. Can't be doing any harm (well I bloody hope not!!)

It's all fun and nothing that serious but does get you fitter.

I ride with only the bottom power zone bar showing, I even turn off the distance and calorie counter.

For me the PZ instructor are great and their choice of music is usually good too. Give me an excuse to totally zone out from everything else going on in the day, get on the bike, pop in the headphones and ride.

Aiming for a 90 minute PZ endurance ride tomorrow before everyone else in the house wakes up.

There's £300 off the bike and packages at the moment anyway. That’s more than you'll get from a referral.

It’s only off the Bike with accessories packages, not the bike alone. I’m sure a deal with come along though

How many sessions do you do a week? thumbup
I just go on the bike 2 or 3 times a week.
Consistency FTW.

Thanks for this. Ended up going with an approved refurbished bike from the Peloton eBay store. Comes with the same 30 day return and 12 month warranty for £995.

90 mintue PZE ride this morning that went surprisingly quickly whilst keeping an eye on the FIAs latest attempts to turn F1 into a Netflix only streaming series...

....the problem ofcourse is doing cardio makes too easy to 'justify' pigging out. Probably need to do x5 back to back 90 minute PZE to burn this off!!

Death by carbs!

I did 30 mins chest and arms, then a 60min PZE this morning… nothing heavy… 190 watts, peaked around 80% max HR. Felt good.

Made Mexican for dinner tonight lick

I’m 56 end of next month… got to work hard just to hang on to what you have at this age… particularly if you like food, beer and wine laugh

PT did it at the gym. Scales, Callipers, Body Circumference Measurements then the use of a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis Machine.
Ah, done properly. My estimations from Smart Scale.

Apparently 23.3% body fat (was 25.4). Looking at photos online, seems like an over-estimation to me (but I would say that hehe)...at least on the downward trend.
Yes, Nothing is infallible but having it measured all ways is as good as it gets.

My 7.2% is hopefully pretty accurate. The callipers got 7.2, the BIAM said 7% dead.

That way of measuring hopefully also make the BMR more accurate too.

Yeah, but you can still get significant gains at that age. I'm 52 and pretty much every metric is the best its ever been. I'm certainly stronger on the bike than I've ever been....and stronger than the guys I ride with that are 10-15yrs my junior.

I ride with a 64yr old sometimes, he can keep on our pace, and last summer rode on a 60 person plus Chain Gang in the US, there was a 72 yr old riding with us....we averaged 41kph for 80km! He didn't do a turn on the front, dropping back at 3rd wheel, but he could maintain our pace comfortably.

Age is not a factor wink

I’m not quite the fittest I’ve ever been (that was spring ‘21, before the covid jab fked me), but I’m not far off and could probably get back there if I put a massive effort in… I was very close this time last year, then caught covid and lost 30% of my aerobic fitness.

Age isn’t a barrier, but there’s no denying it’s harder to gain muscle in your 50’s, and you need to work harder to maintain aerobic capacity than someone 20 years younger.

Plus I like food, beer and wine too much… if I had the discipline to cut out the alcohol i would expect I’d be a chunk fitter… but maybe not as happy smile

Anyhow… got in at a reasonable time tonight, couldn’t find anything that inspired, so did a 45 min ride in German… all at sweet spot… 45 mins at 45 resistance, mid/high 90’s cadence. Enjoyed the mental discipline of simply holding the pace.

Echoing what I said a few weeks ago:

It's painful to admit, but alcohol does have a huge impact.

I put on 3kg over Christmas, got up to a still fairly svelte 66.7kg for context. With a couple of bike events in the first half of the year, including the Mallorca 312, I decided to throw a concerted effort into losing that weight and some.

Went plant-based, slightly increased gym training, still did the same 6-10hrs/week on the bike - still had a drink just about every night during the week, plus a bottle of wine, sometimes more, each evening at the weekend. I dropped just over a kilo after 4 weeks and my average Whoop recovery improved by 5-10 percentage points but still almost always yellow.

I then dropped all mid-week drinking, and pulled back a little at the weekend, kept everything else the same. The following 4 weeks I dropped 3kg and my Whoop recovery was almost permanently green.

I now don't really miss the mid-week wine, and reward myself with a far nicer bottle of wine on a Friday and Sunday evenings.

For the dance music lovers…

Olivia’s 20 min house ride from 23/2 has a great playlist. It’s has some typically tough Olivia intervals… the out of the saddle stuff at the end at high cadence is a particular killer… 80 cadence is too much for me laugh

Oh, and check out her shoes… and the size of her feet… she’s tiny bit looks like she’s got men’s shoes on.
