First proper ride out since about November when I tore a hamstring. Lovely day for it, just the right side of too cold.

I got the Mrs a cheap e-bike and fitted a buddy rider at the weekend. I obviously had to try it out. I had an absolute blast! There were people stopping in the street to have a look and a laugh, cars pulling over and winding their windows down. It’s was really fun and Nev enjoyed it too. Im tempted to put a blanket around him and dress him up like ET for a ride around the village on Halloween biggrin

Yup - it’s good when they don’t really notice the distance - just the food at the end!

From today’s lunchtime sanity check - Curl Curl Beach…

Was about 32C - I know you all feel sorry for me biggrin

Well, Karma was awake this morning - about 15deg cooler and heavy showers, got utterly soaked. Same pool as above, just facing out to sea…

This is Wiston Bostal, the hikers route up to Chanctonbury Ring from the little car park just off the Chanctonbury Ring Road. wink The trail has been closed since the start of the month, ash die back has meant the tree surgeons have had to come in.

Like a lot of Downs climbs, on road as well, it finishes with a little spike of gradient. This is looking at the start, there used to be two trails here a sunken one to the left which normally had fallen trees across it, and a raised one to the right, with sticking out roots and rocks and some slippy chalk to really keep you thinking about it all the way up. There's a trail off to the right, called Lions Run or Star Wars, where the young ones go to "catch some air" but it scares the life out of me, partly because they are always changing it. I heard a rumour that was going to get similar treatment (!)

Not many trees left now. In winter you could see through them to the fields and Wiston House below, but in summer, no chance.

The two separate trails used to come together on this corner.

Looking back up the hill from the previous photo.

Same spot from November. I like to think I like change, I like doing new stuff at work and at home, I'm always looking for new routes out on the bike. This is new, but makes me really sad. I know they have to do it, for the long term its the best solution. But do they have to make it into a motorway? At least the gravel riders will be able to get up it now...

A cold 25 miler. Stopped half way at the Wetherspoons in Paisley which as well as having cheap beer has big windows the bike can be seen from.

I know the feeling, not on that scale but in the last year or so a few places I ride have had some old natural singletrack MTB trails 'upgraded' to wide machine built trails which are OK, fun in their own way but have none of the character of the old timeworn hand-built trails.
