Starting soon: Welsh Chapels In The Middle of Nowhere Much.

I don't post many pictures here, but if you were to follow me on Strava you could get to see my 'Churches, Churchyards, and Commonwealth War Graves Of Rural Wiltshire And Dorset' collection...

Just a sample to tempt you...

Sometimes I go well off script. This church is in Somerset...

...as is this one too.

Kingston village on the Isle Of Purbeck, Dorset...

...passing through on the way to views like this.

Sometimes I get distracted, though, by quirky little things.

Before I get back on track when I find, in the middle of nowhere...

...a touching, simple tribute to one of 'The Few' who gave their lives in defence of our nation shortly after the Battle Of Britain officially ended.

Sometimes I deliberately seek out a church. This one is in the "lost Village" of Tyneham, where residents were evacuated by the War Office during WWII and never got to return. It's still stranded in the middle of a live fire tank range.

I do like to mix things up a bit though. These 'Millennium Beacons' make a nice change...

...as do OS Triangulation Points...

...and comically carved trees.

But I soon get back to Churches...

...village War Memorials...

...and Commonwealth War Graves.

Once I even got out early enough to catch a sunrise...

Before finding this rather impressive War Memorial in a tiny hamlet. No doubt paid for by a wealthy local landowner.

Then there was this surprise find on a bridleway while I was out VeloViewer tiling. A large communal Air Raid Shelter for a shipping line head office which was "evacuated" from Southampton during the Blitz.

Before once again getting back on track with Commonwealth War graves...

...and even more...

...interesting rural parish churches.

Then, of course, there's my little side project. Random Milestones in the New Forest...

...and on Salisbury Plain on roads that are no longer roads.

As well as surviving examples of WWII invasion defences...

...more churches...

...and ancient monuments carved into the landscape.

I've been lucky enough to find shelter from the rain in the fireplace of a roofless Norman castle.

And ridden NCN bike routes that take me past some really old churches

And getting onto "the roads less travelled" found this poignant group of Commonwealth War Graves where whole bomber crews were laid to rest together after crashing near one of the many former RAF airfields in the New Forest...

...tucked behind the parish church at Boldre.

More VeloViewer tiling led me to this memorial stone and tablet...

...on a site where sections of the D-Day/Normandy Campaign 'Mulberry Harbours' were built.

Clarity isn't great, but this was the grave of a RN 'Boy, Second Class' who made it no further than his Training Ship during WWI...

...in this remote churchyard in rural Wiltshire.

Then there are oddities like this Roman Catholic Church converted from a wartime Nissen Hut.

3 Armoured Division memorial plaque at Mere, Wiltshire.

More distractions - I knocked, but Brother Maynard wasn't home...

...a random encounter with a newly restored historic military vehicle on it's first road test after getting it's original engine re-fitted...

...and Minions! Along with assorted other children's TV and movie characters.

But you can rely on Dorset to get you back on track with another C12th or C13th parish church that you'd miss if you drove past in a car.

But in the end you can't always keep a straight face. Some things are just funny... hehe

And believe it or not, that's heavily edited down. I didn't realise quite how many pictures I'd taken until I went back through them to create this post.

I was thinking of posting a few from my “Sunrise at the Beach” series, but I’m still digesting Yellowjack’s offerings…

Anyway, from today - ride didn’t go to plan - late start and a puncture - so came home the fun way, bit damp…

There was an impromptu performance from a random Folk band at my coffee stop this morning. They were really quite good.

First ride on the new bike. 22 miles in the rain. I like it but the gears are skipping a bit.

Don't even get me started on my 'Village Fingerposts Of Rural Dorset' album...

...although the eagle-eyed will spot some rogues in there from both Somerset, and Surrey.

Yup! https://www.google.com/maps/@51.152917,-2.4117823,...
From this ride... https://www.strava.com/activities/5204502046

It's a shame the SCC posts don't have a village name atop them like the Dorset and some Hampshire ones. There's a website dedicated to them, and my neighbour has an online album of photos of them that he takes when out driving around. It annoys him greatly when I find an obscure one he hasn't taken a picture of. And cycling affords better opportunities to stop quickly and take a photo because there's not so much worry about blocking a road or parking in an unsafe spot. And there's more to come because I've not yet explored the southwest corner of Dorset. #myrocknrolllifestyle hehe

few from yesterday just a ride to the gym, recently moved houses so the route is all new again.

Stream runs under the West Coast mainline, they have built a walk way under the bridge, head clearance is a little close.

The next Banksy?

2.6 DHF up front. Lacks the bite of the Magic Mary 2.4, had a few washout moments so after spending the last 6 weeks playing tire roulette, I'll be back where I began.

I’ve never got on with Minions - always found them too DH focussed with too much rolling resistance to be fun elsewhere. Others swear by DHF/R so I’ll accept I’m an outlier.

Anyway, photos - from a ride with a mate that took in some of the more rural local roads and, of course, the beach….
