He won’t be able to stop. He will go on and on as he was until he injures himself IMO.

What's wrong with that?

Well this would indeed be the perfect time to call it. He knows he isn’t actually the fastest man in the world now, just at this race. And he won’t get that luck again, go out in a massive high.

So how is it egotistical if he wants to carry on?
It makes no sense.

Great finish, when they caught the breakaway I knew it would be chaotic to the finish. In all truth the correct outcome, now Cav and Eddie to share their Tour history together

Has he retired then?
No, but he’s only coming back as part of a top team and those places are highly sought after.

It's hard to see why a top team might possibly want him next year.

Hang on...

But he's had 4 stage wins and the green Jersey this race, so why wouldn't teams be backing him?

Gutted. We didn’t quite get the fairytale finish. Slightly boxed in and had to restart his charge and the team all used up keeping things together.

It is easy to see it as a let down, but we have to remember what one stage win would have meant. That alone would have been a great comeback by itself. Multiple wins and the Green Jersey, only the second time he has won that, it is a phenomenal come back.

Whether he can come back next year and get another chance we will have to wait and see.

The debate will be whether he should call it a day, going out at the top and thank his lucky stars everything aligned to make his tour comeback go so well. Or maybe that is unfair and finding form the again he will be strong for another couple of years. If not grand tours then big one day races.

Great result, well done CAV.

Sad he couldn't finish it off today, but it's been a great tour, called up at the last minutes, 4 stage wins, and the green jersey.

I'm guessing he would have told you to fk off if you'd suggested that at the start

On the plus side it’s only 343 days till we get back on the Tour.
