He’ll either be out to prove a point, or he’ll be out to top up his pension fund. I think he’ll crash, or get stung out in the mountains. He’s absolutely nowhere near the standard of the young guns. It’s scary to see the stats of the new generation. I think that if he makes it round ( I doubt it ) he’ll get shelled out like a an M795 on every stage. I think he’s far too old to have a hope in a race like this, especially given the competition he’s up against.

A lot of the early stages are much more lumpy than they look on profile, more suited to classics men really, perfect for Wout or MDVP. There's 2 chances in the first week from what I can see.

I'd be surprised if he won a stage. I can't see him beating out Ewan, and I think tbh even MDVP and Wout are likely quicker, along with Sagan, Merlier, Phillipsen, Demare etc. Be interesting to see though.
I would have said all this. Even Bouhanni will Give Cav a good test! laugh

I thought he had something left in the tank. But my god he looked quick, clearly suits him weighing a few kilos more.

Fantastic - I found it emotional - I've always wanted to see him get back to winning ways on the tour, but it didn't seem possible a while back.

Absolutely fantastic, there’s something incredible watching the sprinters teams chase down the breakaway, was it still a minute lead on a flat stage with 1.5k to go. Go for it Cav, I cheered him on the Champs Elysees when he won the green jersey in 2011

They are fantastic athletes. Full gas from the lead-out trains and then Cavendish produce big power sprints at the end. Amazing stuff.

I thought Van Moer had timed that to perfection but that chase down was brutal. Kudo's to those lead-out men.

Cavendish? Best sprinter ever. Awesome.

Quite possibly, he has patented the lead out then launch to finish. Watching Cav accelerate fro circa 55km/h to 60+ is just world class, I hope he’s in the mood for the mountains as I’d love to see him sprint in Paris

Well I stand corrected. Chapeau to him. To be fair no one at all, not the commentators, not any of the race, thought that was happening yikesbow.

Just watched the full highlights with Carlton Kirsty’s commentary - I have never heard a commentator for any sport get so emotional!
