He’ll either be out to prove a point, or he’ll be out to top up his pension fund. I think he’ll crash, or get stung out in the mountains. He’s absolutely nowhere near the standard of the young guns. It’s scary to see the stats of the new generation. I think that if he makes it round ( I doubt it ) he’ll get shelled out like a an M795 on every stage. I think he’s far too old to have a hope in a race like this, especially given the competition he’s up against.
Well that didn't age too well did itJEA1K said:
He needs 4 wins to equal, 5 to beat him. I'd love to see him beat him as I dislike Eddy. He's a cheat.
Hard to see Cav getting more than 1 or 2 wins but the DQS train will certainly get him into the right place at the right time.

Like I said, he has the best in the business getting him to the right place ... perfect execution from the team and finished off like the Cav of old.
The universal happiness for Cav winning was a joy to behold. Teammates, fellow riders, journo's, everyone happy for him after having a clearly retched time of the past few years. Although he had nothing to prove, that win will allow him to end his career knowing that he didn't just fizzle out. He won a stage of a grand tour when many, including himself, thought he was past it.
By my calculation there are 6 sprint stages left. He's not going to win all of these, but if he stays up right he has a good chance to win another 3/4 including Champs. (providing he can struggle over the mountains which I believe will be even more problematic this year for sprinters as those top GC riders will be going harder for longer) What a comeback that'd be to match or break the record in Paris.
By my reckoning the strongest sprinters left are Colbrelli, Merlier and Philipsen on recent form. Colbrelli is going well but seems to suit the tougher slightly uphill finishes rather than those flat out finishes, Merlier hasn't completed a GT yet and Philipsen didn't look too bad in the final week of Vuelta last year. Demare hasn't had a great start to the season, but has the pedigree and Bouhanni has been closest on the two stages to the front so far, but he's not on Cavs level.
On to today, looks like MVDP is doing all he can to keep in yellow, but with WVA so close, you'd expect him to be able to close 30 seconds based on prior results in TTs. But with Alaphillipe as interloper either could be in yellow after today.

I can see stages 6, 10, 12, 13 and 21 being a bunch sprint, the mountains won’t be as bad this year. Sure the GC guys will be fast and time cuts may come in to play but if the gruppetto is big enough, they won’t worry too much. Today will be interesting to see who tags on to Cab’s wheel and whose wheel Cav takes if their sprint train is disrupted although chances of that are slim as it’s about 500m straight road to the finish.
Today I’m going to say Bling, Cav, Bouhanni...

Aannnndddd apathy has set in. God can we find some competition please
He’s in fine form, back to his feisty (cocky) old self, he easily had 5k/hr over the other sprinters on those last 100m. His lead out team look strong and will only grow in confidence. Wonderful to see the World Champ lead him to the last 1000m, reminded me of Bradley W leading him past Joan of Arc in 2012. He’s won before in Nimes, just hoping they all keep safe and what a Tour so far. Roll on the 12th. Maximus_Meridius101 said:

And again. Although in MM101’s defence, he has apologised for being absolutely and completely wrong!
ETA: Fantastic today… Again!
