Cheers Scott, first time I give it beans up Beaulieu hill I wasn't far off your time up there. Not enough miles for me this year but hoping to correct that as summer goes on. The bike shop actually left the saddle in that position, I'd probably have centred it and gone from there but it's felt comfy so far so I've left it. Some longer rides will probably give me more of an idea to fine tune as I do feel like I'm leaning down a lot more but I think thats mainly the geometry/size change. If you know anyone that fancies a Canyon Alu Road frame with carbon fork and seatpost then let me know!

I think I'll end up with a shorter stem by about 10mm maybe? I don't think I feel too stretched as such but I feel a bit heavy handed on the hoods if that makes sense? Going to have a play with the spacers between now and the 6 week check over, feels a bit more sat up than I was expecting?!
Looks like mileage will be limited until the weather improved but I can't wait to get out on the road proper!

You have a fair few spacers there. If you were comfy on your previous bike you could measure the reach and drop from saddle to bars and try to replicate the set up.

Like I say, I'm going to have a bit of a play with the spacers etc. with a view to cutting the steerer but my other bikes aren't really comparable. The old Raleigh Milk Race thing is just a bit of a weekend hack and I wouldn't call it comfortable, just 'quirky'. My Dawes Galaxy has real touring/commuting geometry which I love and can happily ride for 4 or 5 hours plus so I bought the SL5 as a weekend worrier with the intention of being racier with less focus on comfort and more on speed

Tbh I had some fair options budget wise and looked at a couple of models up and a couple of models down from the SL5 and decided that rather than just blending into the back ground bikes like this should probably be a little bit shouty?! That and IMO the spec of the SL5 is just about spot on without going to full Di2 for which I couldn't justify the additional £1,000+/-. The 105 group set is phenomenal value for money, I have it on the Dawes too and it's practically faultless!

I couldn't bring myself to order the SL 5 purely because of the colour. I didn't feel I could live with that bright a green. Happily for my wallet, this purchase was funded by an errant driver's insurance company, so I spent some extra cash on the Ultegra-equipped SL 6. Knowing now how easy a bike it is to live with, I reckon I could have grown to love the 'GREEN!' of the SL 5 after all. No regrets about colour choice, though, as the red matches the highlights/accents on the PH cycling gear really well!
I've ended up with 30mm of spacers under the stem, and 5mm above. I worked this out with the shop during the (basic) bike fit when I firmed-up my order, and so far I've been very happy with the resulting position on the road.
I'd kept mine as a fair-weather, dry-miles-only bike up until a couple of weeks ago, when I took it out in the damp on a visit to my brother in South Wales. The following day I went out for a short ride into the local hills where it was constant drizzle that got everywhere. Happily, none of the carbon fibre dissolved, and the bike is completely fine, none the worse for it's 'ordeal'...
Got to work, checked tracking on the package and my lazy ass house-mates couldn't crawl out of bed to sign for my package 
Got home and couldn't even open the front door, some f
ker had left a mahosive cardboard box in the stairway...
Wait a minute! mahosive box...someone pass me a Stanley knife!
Woohoo!
Not had a chance to ride it yet but it's full of lovely fine details on close inspection.
I'll need to swap in my sub-compact chainset and 11-32 cassette from my Holdsworth and swap the rear mech cages too, I'd swap the whole derailuer but the other bike's one has a paint chip, also I'll need to swap my cleats to the Look Keo 2's (bike tart in me is denying SPD-SL on a Look frame).

I threw caution to the wind(literally with the stiff 'breeze' I enjoyed today...) and rode her to work today, it had stopped raining but the roads were still wet - took it very easy on the Bontrager slicks... I must sort some insurance this week!
I had a play with the stem height and settled with 3mm below the stem as I wasn't comfortable with it sat directly on the upper bearing cone - feels fast!, quite comfortable on the hoods and drops but I think I'm going to investigate a 70/75mm stem, the current 90mm is a tiny bit of a stretch. I'll ask the LBS to cut the steerer at the 6 week check over.
Ref the colour and clothing etc... only trouble is the Dawes is silver/black, the Raleigh is white and blue so my day to day kit is white/blue/black. New bike has meant new kit!
Nothing extravagant, just the same Deko kit from ebay but in black/green/white... My work in progress..
WTB/Sram Wheels stolen from my Charge 29er. Used V twin and new cranks from eBay. Shifters, mechs and BB new from Ribble with a 10% code. Deda bars from Halfords on a 3 for 2 with the cassette and chain. Saddle, post and stem I already had and likely to be swapped for something else anyway once I've had a test ride.
Owes me £536.17 so far.
WTB/Sram Wheels stolen from my Charge 29er. Used V twin and new cranks from eBay. Shifters, mechs and BB new from Ribble with a 10% code. Deda bars from Halfords on a 3 for 2 with the cassette and chain. Saddle, post and stem I already had and likely to be swapped for something else anyway once I've had a test ride.

After a week of rebuilding/servicing, my cross bike is ready to go.
It's now a bit like Trigger's broom - it started life as Specialized Tri-cross, but after a warranty frame replacement(Specialized sent me a new Crux Carbon Comp frame), and I have just replaced the wheels & brakes(which were the last remaining original components), I think the saddle may be the only original part left.
I've been running it in on the road so far this week, but can't wait for the commute to work through the Pentlands tomorrow!
