Winter bike just got some pimping, more inheritance from the summer bike, this time it got the old wheels and some fresh GP4000S rubber both ends.

Kona Entourage Deluxe downhill bike. Might seem an extravagant way of solving the problem of your chain coming off on the rough stuff but when did us fellas ever need much of an excuse to splash out on a new toy?

Very tidy, I've always liked the look of those.
Had a ride on a Kona Process the other wee, all I can say is WOW. They've really upped their game the last few years!

The Kona is a great looking bike. Seems a touch short travel for a DH bike though.

It's marketed as a 'park bike' - like a mini downhill bike, slack and long enough travel to have fun at bike parks (think morzine etc.), but not such a big downhill bike that it's cumbersome to ride, or that you have to be a pro to ride it fast.
I'll be honest, I much preferred riding a 170mm all mountain/freeride/park (whatever you want to call it) bike in the alps than I did a downhill rig.

That makes sense especially if you're not riding really brutal dh stuff all the time.

The newer hardcore ebduro bikes can probably cover just about anything these days.

Lovely, I really wanted one, but their customer services were hopeless and ignored 3 emails and various tweets asking a couple of specific questions about rider weight limits.

I gave up, but lovely bikes and very well built, enjoying great success in the world series with Manon riding them hard on the downhill circuits.

cool

Hopefully the Ariels are a bit better built this year since they've had plenty of issues with bushings lasting almost no time. Shame because they ride ace, look good and are great value.

Surprised that Entourage is getting praised for its looks! Although that paintjob does look top notch and I'd love to have a go.

Picked this up this week;

Ventana Tandem for sale by bigfoot_on_a_bike, on Flickr

The missus and I are already accomplished tandem riders with hundreds of miles on our touring tandem in the last few years. My love has always been off road however but couldn't really persuade the other half to join me. The perfect solution was an MTB tandem.

I was after a cheap Cannondale MT to slowly upgrade but the above came available for what i considered a reasonable price so I had to have it.

Maiden ride through the Cotswolds last night was really interesting, the bike feels solid as a rock even with both of us out the saddle on some of the climbs. The suspension is really interesting as it doesn't really respond to any weight shifting on the bike, but its flawless on the rough stuff.

Cant wait for tomorrow, we're going to take it for an extended ride round the FoD and possible take in some of the DH trails....

I think they sorted those issues a good few years ago now.

The wife isn't confident to offroad on her own, she has done it but its very slow, especially downhill, this way I do all the controls and steering whilst she just pedals, looks at the view (mostly my arse) and passes me cake.

Thanks, couldn't have put it better myself! It's a short travel downhill bike, which is exactly what I wanted and ideal for Bike Park Wales where I do almost all my riding these days. My previous full susser was OK on the blues and reds, but struggled a bit with the blacks.
