Criteria:

Summer riding, up to 2.1/2.3, possibly tubeless, aggressive cornering thread, but fast running - so perhaps a semi slick?

I have 2.1 Bonty semi slicks, but while they are quick, they are a bit loose on cornering or anything requiring grip, and as such need to see if there is a lightweight equivilent?

This is for PDV6 yesterday - as we were both pondering over this subject after our ride out, and as such I put it to the educated masses...

Cheers

Neil

Hello chaps.

I'm also after tyres for pretty much everything. Hardpack to loose stuff (possibly even a little mud), and I commute a couple of miles a day on tarmac as well. Jack of all trades, master of none required....

Any thoughts?

My tyres have (literally) just arrived on my desk, so I'll be fitting them & trying them out this week.

I run Schwallabe (sp) Nobby Nic's.
There light as hell in the 2.1's. They roll well and have a fairly aggresive nobbly side wall.
For summer riding I run on Racing Raplhs. There very fast, but handling isn't quite as good as the Nobby Nics.

I've gone for a pair of Specialized Enduro Pro's.

Got good write-ups, and were less than 20 quid a tyre. We'll see how they go.

Damn expensive, though! Nearly £40 a tyre...

Hutchinsons are good. I've been running some spiders through the winter, which are excellent IMO and i'll be buying a pair of new Python's in the next few weeks for summer use.

Wiggle deliver fast.

And man, I've not fitted non steel beaded tyres for a while. That was *not* fun.

Can't see a steel version on Wiggle - you sure they're not folding ones?

I'm sure they *are* folding ones. Hence the pain and struggle....

D'oh! Didn't read that properly...

Why the problem, then? I find folding bead tyres far easier to mount than steels...

Nope... Years of fitting them leaves me in a cold sweat (don't talk to me about some DH Rims)...

2.7 Comp 32's or 2.5 High rollers onto Mavic Deemax...

Like fitting a barrow tyre onto a tractor wheel!

I use these, Continental Travel Contacts, for most of my riding. They're quick with fast rolling centre tread, but aggressive corner knobs to avoid any washouts. My commute (I hesitate to write daily because I'm a lazy bugger) takes me on hard pack through Richmond Park and then urban/tarmac. These work for 10 months of the year just fine.

Most of my riding is on dry loose stuff - Maxxis Larsen TT rear and Maxxis Crossmark front, both 2.1, seem to work just fine. Both have bold centre tread and good grip in the corners, but the Crossmark is quite pressure-sensitive and the Larsen doesn't last very long. Worth a punt though.
