Can you please list the top ten MTB / hybrid bikes with a 24" wheel size. Must be strong and very light. Not the type with the seat at a mad 45 degree angle sitting on the rear wheel! For jumps and general plaything - but NOT heavy!

Thanks!

Hybrid + strong + light + for jumps + not heavy...

Does not exist. Not asking much are you? Do you mean a jump bike? In which case the seat is over the back wheel at 45' for a very good reason.

Or do you mean a regular mtb? Or do you mean a hybrid? Doesn't really make sense..

Why 24"?

Well my current s-works is very strong and light. Granted such a combo isn't cheap.

I want a simple bike for fun, in a smaller chuckable size of 24" wheel. Simple

Something along these lines but with more post height:

What S-works frame you got?

All makes more sense now, the 'hybrid' part was putting me off...

Whats your budget? full bike or building it yourself? Loads of 'play bikes' out there...

I'd be looking at a DMR Trailstar as that sounds like it might fit your criteria.

Revell 250
Any of the DMR range
Brooklyn Park Bike (not ultra light but oh so sweet)

Then you've got the bmx brands who do 24in bikes.

I really do not undertand fitting 24 inch wheels to a jump bike to make it flickable only to fit it out with tyres like that

It's not just me that thinks the 24" wheel thing is just a silly fashion then? 29 is the way forwards! Maybe not for a jump bike though.

It depends what type of trail you ride. I have an s-works fsr for all round mtb work. A small hardtail gains more air for jumps. It's a different fun type of riding. Why be so rigid about it all.

You say the DMR is chubby and by this I take it you mean heavy but then you mention the Brooklyn which will more than likely weigh a tonne.

Have I understood you correctly?

Imo, the DMRs are at the lighter end of the kind of frames you're looking at. Especially the Trailstar

Just thought of another possibility, Orange Hitman, not a bad bike for about £750 or so

I'd prefer a single gear, simple design. Which offerings are borderline bmx / mtb for a lighter weight?

What about looking for a cruiser? They are BMXs with a 24" wheel.

Sounds like exactly what you're after

The cruisers I've seen look a bit cheap and weedy. It still needs to be able to take some proper abuse!

Hi,

Have you ever considered or heard of a curtis frame,

www.curtisbikes.co.uk/order.html

i reckon they are stunning, i had a couple of DMR trailstars but due to quality condition's i never built them up, just passed on them, however i had a good look at what curtis offer in T45 steel, the quality is stunning and the price is good for a custom frame, can be specced to 24, you should check it out.

I went the aluminum route in the end myself, and currently riding a 06 Cove StiffeeFR,
but if i was to consider going back to steel, i will be giving curtis a call,

Good Luck, hope this is of help.

Thanks,

Last night I added curtis to my short list. I was going through this list:

www.pinkbike.com/links/

These frames also look like good geometry:

24 bicycles
astrix
brave
brooklyn
cannondale
curtis
demonch

I will slowly get through that list above and shortlist them all. If I see a mint used bargain for half price that will likely win out. But if nothing crops up then a custom frame would be awesome. I recall Merlin used to be big in this area. Any other custom frame makers in this section of niche bikes?
