I run a 4 year old SRAM 9 carbon rear mech and 5 year old FSA carbon cranks on my MTB Shimano certainly didn't invent the wheel.
XTR is great though use some of that stuff too.
And Look and Time where making carbon road frames in the 80's.

Campagnola Record

Campagnolo Record
The most technological groupset for racing bicycles. The Campagnolo Record groupset is incomparable and a glance will tell you why. But the Campagnolo Record groupset does not just have outstanding esthetic appeal. It contains an unprecedented concentration of technology.
The use of the technology of composite materials enables components with reduced weight and greater mechanical resistance to be obtained.
Not to mention the flexible design and solutions reached that would be impossible with aluminum.
The materials have been chosen and specially made for each single component

fantastic bit of kit

Quick guide for you....

XTR - eXpensive To Replace
XT - eXpensive Too
LX - Less eXpensive
STX - Still Too eXpensive

I think that about coveres it.

I run mostly LX and some deore on mine. If it breaks, i see how much money I've got in my wallet, but would never fit anything more than XT on my bike. I'd be too worried about breaking something.

Thanks for your advice guys, particularly mulletmark hehe
No one has mentioned SIS, which are the components on my present bike. Are they not made anymore?
