Noisey bike

My new used Kona stinky bike is making squeaky noises, on rear shocks when it being rebounded, chain rattling... i just came off single gear hard tail.

I wonder if thats normal to have squeaky bike...
could i put 3-in-1 oil on shock shaft?

Anyone's bike making noises?

Are they sinlge pivot or multi link?

Just came from a Marin Quad which made loads of noise to a Orange 5 Sinle pivot which only when pushing hard up a hill with lock on makes a slight noise.

It's probably a baring in the linkage rather than the shock it's self. Well at least I hope it is or the shock is dry and the only fix is a £100ish trip for it to Mojo (guessing it's a fox job).

You can deaden chain rattle by wrapping an old tube around the chainstay and sub frame directly above it. Fix them in place with some cable ties. A slightly dearer fix is to do the above and fix a derailer with a shorter cage. Medium cages are best for twin ring set-ups. Just be careful setting the chain length. Set the chain on the biggest cogs front and rear and then remove the shock and set the frame on full travel. Then set the chain length. Whilst the shock's out try all the pivots for the squeak and oil it, in fact just oil all of them.

Lastly a mate of mine spent ages trying to find a squeak, lubed the barings, removed the shock, checked gear cables and brake lines weren’t rubbing etc. Turned out to be a squeaky saddle…

P.S. All full bounce bikes make some kind of noise as they rattle down the trail. Nature of the beast, lots of moving parts.
