download "trails" from the APP store, then you can either download tracks or set up your own ones, done both very good.
once you have finished your route, you can edit way points, look at speed, amount climbed and decent, you can view it as a map, hybrid or satalite.
once youve finished fannying around with on the phone you can export it via email in GPX file, or as i do to www.everytrail.com and you can be really anal and export it to facebook!

i'll be recording this weekends efforts around afan, then boring everyone with, maps, average speed and then facebook!
so much awesomeness.

GPS Tracker does the same sort of thing. Needs to remain in the foreground on the WhyPhone though.

I'd been using imapmyride and imapmyrun, but I'll give trails a go when I'm out walking the dog later today smile
Cheers for the heads up.

Just downloaded Sports Tracker for the N95 and have to say I'm impressed! Looks like I'll need to invest in a dedicated GPS receiver to tape to the bars though as the phone doesn't seem to pick up the satellites too well when it's in my bag... laugh

So, who fancies starting a Pistonheads Pedal Powered group on Sports Tracker?

guys, ive done my first live run with the system.

and whiles you can see that "something" has happened.

there is alot of randomness happening.

any idea

this was done using my n95 with nokia sports tracker.
does anyone know if the standalone gps units will be more accurate ?

I found the opposite, that setting the filtering to high got rid of randomness. Also, if you turn on the speed averageing to every 5 secs, it gets rid of the speed blips. You do it under the activity setting.

Some stupid questions..... I've got a 5800 and see that the sports tracker app is now available for this phone. Does it cost anything to use the GPS feature on the phone or is it free? Does the phone need to be in open view of the sky, or can it be in a rucksack, etc?

Once I've identified the app, how do I put it onto the phone? I presume no other devices/senders, etc are needed?

I really have zero experience with this sort of thing! Apologies if these are obvious questions!

you need a gps reciever for it to work. the nokia n95 has one built into it.

if yours doesnt then you will need one of the deices i posted about above.

to install it on my phone, i just went to the sports tracker website using my phone and let it do it that way. easier than mucking about with cables and bluetooth.

Just been through installing this on my 5800 this morning smile Hope this is of some help:

You need sports Tracker 1.83, as this is the only 5800 compatible version. Don't download the lastest one, trust me wink The other downloads simply don't run on the 5800, in my experience.

Once you get going (i.e, get the software to actually run) it's very simple, the 5800 does have GPS built in (and with v21 software you can even Geo-Tag photos, which is cool), you get walked through a set of menus, then you choose workout (I chose cycling) and when it finds a signal, press 'start' and it will begin logging your trip.

I walked about the hosue earlier and averaged 5.6mph, apparently smile Not so accurate indoors, but can't wait to try it on the bike!!

I've been using Instamapper for a couple of months - it works really well for me, I wrote up a review here along with the other kit I've been using with some example maps
