rode "the beast" which was a blast. "pink heifer" could well be my new favourite piece of man made singletrack in the country, the trails there are just so much fun, really well designed and totally rideable on almost anything though full sus really does let you rip through some of the sections at speeds bordering on lunacy... some mean fireroad climbs though that require a grimace and a case of MTFU too....

rode the marin trail at llanwrst on sunday, singletrack was, in general, slower and more technical but all good fun nonetheless... again all the climbing is on fireroads so its not too bad. if you havent been to either, you really, really must, you owe it to your bike...

Agreed...they are a blast, however sometimes I think the trails at CYB have the odd section that is a bit frustrating...there's a section on Dragon's Back that's just a bit too narrow, with trees that you have to slow right down to get round...you just sometimes feel "aaaarrgghh why is that tree there as it was flowing SOOOO well without it!" And no I'm not super fast...most of the guys I ride with agree with me.

But I'll give you Pink Heifer, just an awesome bit of singletrack. And if you are a bit wobbly on rocks, a weekend at CYB will sort that out! Dreamtime, Rocky Horror are also scary quick, and Pins and Needles is awesome on an FS bike.

Was there last week. It is truely awesome! Bit annoyed that various sectiosn were closed but regular maintenance is what makes it so good I suppose. Rode the Temtiwr, (most of) the Tarw, the Beast and a wilderness ride from MBR starting at Tal-y-bont. Stayed in the HYB bunkhouse in Dolgellau. Right in the centre with aprivate carpark and nice rooms (sleeps 16). A few minutes walk from the Lemongrass Indian Restaurant where we ate both nights!

Heading to Betws-y-Coed in three weeks to do Llandegla, the Marin, Penmachno and another Wilderness ride from MBR.

the "admas family" section is pretty good too, just one trail sweeping into another. managed to scare myself silly o nthe fast open fireroad descent after the long, long climb too. felt the fornt tyre (Maxxis Larsen) running wide and had to apply a hefty dose of rear brake and the shifting of body weight to get the back out to compensate....

roadie experience = leaving other mtbers for dead on the hills too! big respect to the spicy 516 rider though who tore up the hills!

Having rode most of the trail centres in Wales, I don't rate CYB to be honest. Most of the trails are described as "technical" which as far as I can make out means you're having to pick your way through very rocky sections without much flow. Pink Heifer was rather disappointing too if I'm honest.

IMHO, the BEST trail in Wales is the combined Raven & Gorlech trails at Brechfa smile

The Pont Scethin route in the latest mbr? I'm planning on doing it tomorrow. Any good?

That's the one.

It was very wet / humid when we did it so no grip but not too much sticky mud either.

There are two really challenging climbs (technical and fitness) with some decent down hills to follow. Really long final drop over various surfaces.

Took us just under 3 hours from memory.

Well worth doing in my opinion. You may get to see the sea if the weather is not as bad as we had.

Point to note: The directions from MBR are pants. We got round OK using their map plus an OS. Just double check the written directions with the map at every stage.

Good luck and enjoy...

Thanks for that. I've just been studying the OS and Goggle Earth (someone has put the route on there). There are a couple of places that I'm very glad I know about now that would be confusing otherwise! I'm knackered now trying to get the route straight in my head, supposed to be up at 5:30am, this is exactly the reason I usually just go to the trail centres (and I still may end up at CyB yet) hehe
