Ed and Mrs Ed went to Afan the other weekend. Stayed at Afan Lodge - thoroughly nice place.

I've ridden all the trails at Afan now, and there really arent any duffers. Biggest challenge on Y Wal is cleaning the Graveyard section. Hook the granny ring, spin up a nice high cadence and get out of the seat as your front wheel hits the first rock.

Skyline is a total epic, take plenty of food and water. Its a huge ride, and has a lot of fireroad in it, but also some excellent ST. Peregrine Ridge and Jetlag are superb sections.

We rode Penhydd as a warmup the other weekend, and then did W2 the next day. W2 is goooooooood. Mmmmm. Up the sheep track, along Whites Windy Point (via black run if you feel like it), then hook a right before energy and over to Wall at the end of the climb. An entire lap of Wall, then back along the Parsons Folly link, and back onto Whites at the stat of energy, and finish back at Drop-off cafe. 44K, and probably more interesting than Skyline, but Skyline has 2km of climbing in it, if thats your thing.

I love Afan.

"Any one else?"

Can I come? Would be down that way on the 3rd with bike and have ridden most of the trails at Afan/Glyncorrwg before but usually by myself, would be nice to have some company, and yes, you might have to wait for me at the top of the first climb but at 61 I reckon I've got a good excuse to dawdle up it.
As for missing the bit out after the "first" bit of singletrack (not counting the stuff behind the visitor centre), this was closed off last time I was there, but probably open now. The first bit is pretty good, like the previous bit but downhill. Unfortunately this leads to a pretty boring track through the woods and a long steep climb which more or less takes you back to the start of that bit of ST.....are you still with me?......and I can see the sense in missing it out anyway. Sidewinder is brilliant, one of my favourite bits.
Looks like the 3/8 is a goer then.

Will have to be Cwmcarn for me distance wise as will be heading down from Gloucester.

is that w/c 3/8 or 3/8 on the day?

cwmcarn works for me, a bit closer so less driving!

Monday 3/8 works best for me. Can't really do the rest of that week.
